Thread: Rojek thicknesser/planers

Does anybody have any experience with these Rojek machines, or can tell me how they compare to Minimax, Hammer or Holz Profi.

I have since found out they come from Czech.

can't tell you much about the Rojeks except that they have a strong marketting presence in the US. I can tell you though that Hammer is made by the Felder company in their factories in Austria - that's Austria, Europe not some factory in China called Austria. At least this was the case this time last year when I was talking to the Felder rep in Qld. He lives in your neck of the woods BTW - Canungra, just down the road from you. Check with Brendan (Felder) but I'm pretty sure it's still the case.

I don't see what the problem is where the machine is made anyway. I looked at a Taiwanese made panel saw last year ($17K) that was better specced, built and finished than my Italian made machine. And the base model Altendorfs are now made in China. These are high end industrial machines, not hobbyist toys. Manufacturers choose to send some of their manufacturing overseas in order to cut costs, but it doesn't neccesarily follow that they will cut quality also. Jet is manufactured in Asia but it's miles ahead of similar machines made for other companies. Hammer is light industrial/serious hobbyist stuff and, judging from what I've seen of Felder's offerings, if they've chosen to move manufacturing offshore they've done it to keep the costs down while maintaining a standard.

Hi ian, yeah, already tried that, but he has none in stock, and is going up north for a three months holiday. He did say he might be able to ship me in a 'one-off' machine when he gets back, but will have to wait and see about that.

Mick, don't have anything against a Chinese machine IF it is the same quality as Euro (havn't seen anything in the lower end of the market to support this yet), but get p!$$&d off when the manufacturers lie and try to decieve people about where it is made.
