    Default Sander's packed it in

I had a Bosch (pex125 I think), lasted for donkey's years. Now I'm in the market for a new sander, does anyone have any recommendations for a heavy duty random orbital sander or even something more modern.
By the way it's no good recommending Festool, their electronics are too sensitive for our off the grid power system.

The Mirka sanders look really good. I've tried them at the shows and been impressed.

Hmmm, Bluetooth & soft start sounding a bit festoolish ;sensitive electronics. I might have to give the distributors a call and ask a question or two.
Any idea who they might be?
    Cheers.

The best sander I have ever used, and still using, is a Hitachi SAV-150 or it could be SAY-150. The one I bought 15 years ago is still going, but one I bought about 5 years ago, snuffed it...so can't say how long they will last nowadays.

Thanks Richard, sounds like they aren't what they used to be. They probably don't make people like us anymore either(not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing).

With your off grid power have a look at the new battery powered festool sanders.

Mirka CEROS. The transformer/rectifier should sort out any power source irregularities before they hit the sander.

I bought mine from BC Coatings. My work is in Moorabbin if you want to have a feel of it.

Crikey, it certainly pays to shop around. elanjacobs ,interesting that you mention a rectifier I have one between my turbine and battery bank (48vlts). I've replaced it twice due to lightning strikes. Thank whoever that I haven't had to replace 600mt of copper cable.

The sander itself is 22VDC @18A, it comes with a rather large 110-240VAC transformer brick. I hang mine off the back of the vacuum.

Very opportune thread this as I was about to go out and buy a RO sander shortly.

The question is, which model to go for in the 150 mm range? Ceros v Deros? Mainly to be used for furniture, toys and cutting boards.

As far as I can tell, the main difference is size; the Ceros is smaller, but you need to find a home for the transformer. The Deros has vibration monitoring via Bluetooth to your phone, might be useful if you're using it 40 hours a week, I think it's just technology for the sake of it.

The offer is open to anyone who can get to Moorabbin on a Sunday to have a play with a Ceros (and whatever else I have that looks interesting)

I am also a CEROS convert. Brilliant piece of equipment. I have the 150 and the 73mm units.
