Default SDS and Aldi Rotary Hammer Drill

Looking into the business end of an old rotary hammer drill I have, I see this, which fits the SDS profile with the spring-loaded ball bearings at 90 degrees to the channels and released/locked by pulling the locking sleeve back ...

    Then I bought this yesterday...

Not a single SDS bit/chisel will stay locked in this machine.
Couldn't fathom it, so I had a look down the centre and saw the ball bearing arrangement laid out like this, adjacent to the channels...

The SDS bits/chisels will never lock in, or am I missing something here?

Aldi told me it's a "one off fault" but it looks like a significant engineering cock-up in China?

    Anyone seen this before?

Depends on if they are all like that (monumental stuff-up by supplier) or its just one or a few (machine operator had a few at lunch).

So far my experience with Aldi's house branded stuff is that it ranges from just OK & you get reasonable value to the occasional very good bit of gear that is excellent value.

Their return policy is pretty generous too, even if there is no fault in the tool you have 60 days to return it for a refund.
