Default I told you guys the stuff grows on trees over here...

If you've read one of my similar posts gloating about eBay bargains and found it distressing then stop reading now...

I was taking a break from work and cruising around the tool section in eBay when I came across a bloke selling some remaining Metabo stock (all new of course):

    Attachment 79279
    • Chuck
    • Scoring attachment with blade for a Tk 1688 table saw
    • Hole punch for sanding paper
    • Base plate for a Duo
    • A lubricating stick
    • Some wierd tool for something...
Anyway, I whacked in a bid and it came today. Everything as described and best of all, a mate of mine's got a birthday coming up and he's got a Tk 1688! So what did I pay?

    Last chance not to know...

    You won't believe this...

    Okay...

EUR 3.59! That's about 5 bucks Aussi... Ya gotta laugh....

Goodness Me, Damien! That's almost immoral...

You just seem to have a sixth sense for what's going to end up being a "steal"... Going on normal Metabo prices, that Scoring Attachment alone would have to be worth quite a few Reichsmarks! You have to wonder why he didn't bother to set some sort of a starting bid. Has he quoted postage yet?

Best Wishes and (Very) Well Done,
    Batpig.

Better watch out Damien, with gloats like this you'll have us putting in orders, "Damo, can you pick me up a such'n'such but no more than 7.5 Euros. Excellent"

I can beat that Damien. I few months ago an Ebayer was selling off his electronic bits and pieces (collected for years). The photo he posted wasn't very good, and his description was vague: "assortment of electronic parts". So I bid $30.00 and forgot about it, and was surprised when I was the "winner" (don't ya love that term on Ebay) for $26.00. When I rang to arrange pick-up, the poor fella told me that electronics has been a hobby and that he was retiring and moving on to other things. He told me there was a very large box to pick up, and that some of the items inside the box were worth well over $100. I told him that if he wanted to back out and try again with better pictures and so on, that I would retreat. But he said he wanted to go through with the deal.

The box was so heavy that it took two of us to load it onto my truck, and it contained three multimetres, capacitor testers, other testers, microphones, headsets, cables and plugs and boxes and boxes of electronic components, and rolls of wire and a soldering iron and tools and speakers ... well, I spread it all out and it covered my lounge room floor and the box was only two thirds empty. I had to pack it all up and take it down to the shed in three separate loads. A lot of it was new and still in packets.

    Nice one mate

I bought an Elu TGS 171 (flip saw) the other day for 27 Euro.
Last week, this guy put in the equivilent of 'powered saw' with a crap picture. I paid 33 Euros and picked it up in the next town 3 km away. It was a top condition cold saw with a Steyer motor and lubricant/cooling system that retails here for over 600.
Bought an Elektra Beckum DB800 lathe a couple of days back with heaps of chisels and extras for 49...
The list literally goes on and on...

Got my eye on a new Gold edition 250 mm Metabo saw blade currently at 2 Euro and over in an hour... Every day's like Christmas over here!

All right, I give in. But Ebay over here is more of a sellers market I've always found. I've bought a few good things but generally I reach my limit fairly early in the bidding.

And the other day, I finally got around to finishing it!

The saw for 27 arrived yonks ago. The bloke had listed it with a buggered motor but what he failed to mention was the fact that they'd cracked the cast removing the induction core. So what I thought was going to simply be a case of sourcing a new field (not available anymore) or getting the old one rewired, turned out to be a bit more trouble.

Anyway, the other day I found what I was looking for. The same saw with no legs and no electronics. Called the bloke up and he assured me the motor was okay. The electronic board alone costs over 150 Aussi bucks and the lack of legs was enough to keep most away so I whacked in a bid and got her for 80 Euro.

To cut a long story a little bit shorter, I pulled it down, cleaned it up, took the best parts from both before respraying it and putting the whole lot back together. (Including the legs which aren't in the pics)

I even made up a new sticker for it:

Not a bad machine. The 173s are a much better alternative but impossible to come by cheap. The 1.5 HP induction motor doesn't have a break which is a bit scary...

PS. Anyone having problems rotating their turntable should release the nylon grub screws in the mounting plate. There are 4 in the fence and 3 in the semicircle.

Well actually he is. I have still got 4 Metabo cordless drills and a Makita Jigsaw I got from one of his trips home. Really good stuff!
    Keep it up Damo.
