Tool Brands- Who Owns What
Stumbled across this web page recently. Not sure how accurate it is but interesting just the same.

This might be of interest as well.
One thing missing from the above graphic is that JPW (owner of Jet and Powermatic) have recently been acquired by Gamut, a venture capital firm. Would bet big bucks that they’ll start cutting corners and start trading on the names rather than the quality those names used to indicate. I know Jet aren’t what they used to be but Powermatic has always meant quality, it will be a shame if that goes away.

Global manufacturing
Many thanks to Kidbee and Bueller for this thread. There are some surprising affiliations in these lists, many of which we are blissfully unaware of.
I always thought Hilti power tools were made for them by one of the big manufacturers, but this list has them as a stand-alone company. Their tools seem to be of a high quality, well done to them.
Maktec is another brand which I believed to be a cheaper brand of Makita, but this appears to not be the case, and the other surprise to me was that Metabo and Hitachi are affiliated.
Interchangeability of spare parts has taken on a new chapter with this list. Sooner or later, we will find that a switch on one brand is identical to that on another tool, or more interestingly, the ability to swap batteries between various brands of cordless tools.

Some things already are interchangeable; TTI own AEG, Ryobi and Homelite. A lot of their gardening hardware is interchangeable such as whipper snipper attachments; the AEG 58V gardening series is also sold under the Echo badge and their 18V cordless power tools are rebadged as Ridgid in the US.

Festool has a few brands in the family - Tanos (systainers) is one. It would not surprise me if Tormek was another.

Festool is a subsidiary of the TTS Tooltechnic Systems. Still family owned.
