TSC-10HB saw and router wing

Just got the new C-T catalogue and noticed that the Tsc10hb price has gone up which did not surprise me with all things that have gone on in the last 12 months. I was however very surprised that it has only gone up just over $50.00. Still seems very reasonable for what you get.
Reading the fine print further surprised me when I saw that the saw now comes standard with the router table extension wing. I am intending to move up to the TSC in the forseeable future and the until recently optional router table was something I was thinking about. Given that the wing in the last catalog went for $160 that just seems to make the deal sweeter in my opinion.
I have searched and while the question has sort of been asked in the past as part of other generalised questions about the machine, I couldn't see where anyone had actually answered it. This is not a compliant btw, just an observation.
I have some questions in my mind with the router wing as there does not seem to be a mitre slot in the wing so one has to rely on the slot in the saw table which from the pics seems some distance from the hole in the router wing.

Does anyone here actually have the router wing and what prompted you to get it in the first place?
Am I reading too much into it worrying about the distance from the slot to the bit?
Any thoughts on the fence that is still an aftermarket option?

I am not saying that because it now comes with the router wing, I am going to put my money elsewhere, far from it, I merely want to hear others opinons, views and general thoughts on the concept....

Good question & I'd be very interested in replies.
I have a Jet Supersaw

& just fitted a Jet Exacta Router Lift

on the RHS. I haven't used it in anger yet - still stuffing around with dust extraction setup - but also wondered about the need for a mitre slot closer to the router bit. And being aluminium, I can't use my u-beaut GripTite magnetic featherboard gadgets anywhere near the router.
Any good tips on the Router Lift anyone? Or router wings attached to TSs generally?

My 10HB came with the router extension when I got it a couple of years ago. I used it once or twice, but have gone back to my old router table. The fence easily lifts off and can be used at the router, the router was not too difficult to mount and center.

I use the old router table because:
1. It is a lot quiter using the router in the table (enclosed motor). The table saw seems to amplify the noise.
2. The router is easy to take in and out of the router table just by screwing the router to the base plate. The mounting in the extension is fiddly.
3. I like using a wooden fence on the router table. Can mark on it, clamp easily, and don't worry about it hitting the router.
4. It really is a lot louder on the extension. Did I mention that already? Shakes the foundations of the house, drowns out teenage son's heavy metal music, knocks the ticks off the dog, etc etc.

But it came with the saw, and I like the room and support it gives to the left of the blade.

Ray, I have a 12" contractor saw. I removed one of the contractor saw wings and replaced it with a router wing. to which I have added a 150 mm wide melamine extension to fill out and maximize the use of the saw fence. I piggy backed a router fence on the other side of the saw fence. You can see my setup here.

Pros: takes up very little room in the shed. If I had the space I would prefer a separate router table but this is about the only way I can have a router table.

Cons:
-The saw/router fence is more difficult to set with a router fence attached. Despite a HMWPE strip it drags on the table top and does not align quiet as cleanly as I would like.
- dust goes every where. An enclosed router table would be better

I don't use the router that often so router noise as that significant.

Thanks for the replies, interesting points mentioned. The noise factor was one out of left field. The inability to put pencil lines etc on the fence is one that I assume can be worked around with a bit of masking tape. The noise factor does not worry me too much as I have no dog or teenage son with stereo. I like the space that I would save I have to admit. Room for more toys as a certain special someone would call them........

I bought my 10HB a bit over 1 year ago, and it came with the router wing at no extra charge. I have been using it since. I have not found any noise issues as i wear ear muffs.
As for the fence i built my own MDF fence, that screws into the holes which are already in the table.

The other advantage of using the wing is i can use the TS rip fence for wide pieces or cutting dados etc with the router. Overall i am very happy with the router wing.
The only complaint would be the hassle of having to remove and install the router fence eveytime i change from sawing to routing and vice versa.
