Default Wood owl Auger bits - Anyone tried them?

    Hi all
Just asking i anyone on the forum has tried the Wood Owl Auger bits? They have been given some positive reviews by Christopher Schwarz and others in the chair making/furniture building Instagram community. I have some old bits that I have sharpened and used with ok results in a brace, but was considering an upgrade (and using a drill instead). The big drawcard is apparently very low blowout on the exit side.
What about the three flute Irwin bits from the big B?
Now we can't buy from Amazon USA anymore, it's Ebay or Lee Valley, all expensive options.
    Thanks
    Pedro

Yep. They are great. Cut powerfully and cleanly. Keep in mind that they are also about 1/3 shorter than the common Jennings auger bits. Sharpness is a great equaliser.

I have some of the Irwin bits you asked about; they are designed for rapidly making holes in softwoods using a quailty cordless drill or an impact driver. They don’t blow out the back too badly and using a sacrificial backing it is practically eliminated. A carpenters tool rather than one for a joiner.

I have some of the Woodowl Tri-cut smooth self-feed auger bits and they are brilliant- smooth cut, clean entry, very stiff and rugged compared with Irwins and I highly recommend them. I also have some of their auger bits designed for power drills without a feed screw - these cut really nice as well, faster, and demand a lot less power/torque from the drill. The downside is they are shorter and can't be used by hand.

    Cheers, Dom

    Hi all
Just tried a quick order from LV for 4 of these bits posted to Oz, cheapest freight deal was $A120 for 8 to 12 weeks delivery. I presumed that this would get increased by GST as well. I may have a go at the Peter Galbert make your own brad point first.
