Woodfast Junior Bandsaw
I bought an old Woodfast Junior Bandsaw today for $50. It is 10", made in SA and I'd guess is from the '60s. In reasonable condition, bottom bearing is stuffed, but that should not be a problem. It came mounted on a piece of an old door with a GE 269374 motor (so old it was made in Canada). I think it is 1HP, rpm is 1425. I did see it run briefly before buying it, and it seemed slow. (Perhaps not surprisng as the bearing was stuffed and the motor needed oil in the 2 reservoirs) It had a blade for cutting metal on it and it had clearly cut some aluminium, so perhaps they wanted it slow. The motor has a 2 7/8" pulley driving an 8" pulley on the saw. The maths of this are beyond me, but should I do anything to the pulleys to alter the speed?
Thanks.
Tim
Since writing that I have done some web research and found a number of useful sites. The end result it that it is far too slow and I will need to change the drive pulleys. This http://www.temecularodrun.com/ref/rpm_calc.asp
site is particularly useful.
