    Question Yep, Tablesaws Again

OK, need options & opinions guys.

If you had say $3,000 to spend on a tablesaw, what would you buy?

I do a bit of everything - panel work (MDF, veneered board etc), solid timber etc. I don't need to handle full sheets - probably maximum 600x1200. Sliding table might be a good idea, but I don't want a monster machine. Single phase. Decent quality.

TSC-10HB might be an option - but not with just the 30" rails. I have 50" rails on the Biesemeyer on my current tablesaw - guess I could swap the setup with the TSC-10HB.

I was thinking more along the lines of a Jet or Delta or Elektra Beckum though - quality. Don't want to feel like replacing it 12 months from now.

    Hi Darryl,

If I had the money and the space.. I would consider the Delta Unisaw or the Jet Version the JTAS10XL... See picture

You could also think about the 12inch version of the Jet.. Although it is a bit more expensive. $3.5k I think from Gregory's in Brisbane. MWE don't normally stock it but I'm sure they would get you one with enough notice.

You could also have a look at the TSC-10HB's 12inch bigger brother..

This saw is just over the $2k mark.. I know they have a sliding table available for it also..

If you're simply after quality in a smaller saw. Then for around $2k I don't think you could beat the Jet Supersaw with or without the sliding table. I just wish my budget could have stretched that far..

I hope my TSC-10HB lasts longer than that. Oh, it has. Been over 12 months now and it hasn't fallen to bits yet.

I would spend $1500 on a TSC-10HB and spend the other $1500 on a decent thicknesser or a drum sander or an 8" jointer or.....

I'm actually contemplating a bit more than just the saw - possibly also upgrading my jointer and bandsaw as well. I think I'm pretty well decided on those though - Jet 6" jointer and a Jet 16" bandsaw (maybe the 18").

Whole thing might not happen yet, still deciding. I already have a full workshop - not much in the way of new machines that I want, this would be upgrading the current gear.

I think I'd like the Jet 10" JTAS10XL cabinet saw, but nobody seems to stock it any more. I've been thinking about the SuperSaw, so I'll take a look at one of those this Saturday. Seems a little less like a cabinet saw and more like a construction saw though

I've contemplated buying a combo jointer/thicknesser, but I've yet to find one that's 12" and affordable. Would save me some space in the workshop though - it's getting a little tight in there.

Darryl, it might be worth your while to approach Felder and look at the Hammer 17" bandsaw plus a C3 or B3 TS, jointer thicknesser combo. It would be under $10k all up, and good quality/service to boot.

    Just a thought.

Darryl, I'd give this one a bit more thought.... I don't think the jointer tables on these are (typically) long enough or accurate enough - or stay adjusted. I think you might be disappointed, compared to a good cast iron standalone buzzer. I wouldn't want to go back to an "under & over" machine.

Don't buy a 6" jointer (Jet or otherwise) unless you are really pressed for space (like moi )

Go the 8". Longer bed, wider cut, as you know, most boards are 200mm wide.

I'd echo Darren. Get the TSC10-HB, swap your Biesemeyer fence and rails and spend the leftover money on some new or upgraded kit.

The TS12R comes with the longer rails on the fence. I have had no trouble with it and I believe it is available with a sliding table.

Groggy: I'd like to be spending $10k, but I just can't justify it I think $5k is the limit. Might just PM Mr Felder anyway - quality might just fit into the budget

Murray: Definitely don't want to go to one of the $1,000-odd combos - might be something of quality out there though. Would definitely save some space.

Craig: I'd like to go with a larger jointer, but I really don't have the room. The difference in table length between say a Jet 6" and a Jet 8" or Powermatic 6" is enough to take over the space my router table currently occupies. Really can't crowbar it in.

In that case, buy the Jet!

The new model Carbatec jointers and thicknessers are coming out on steel wheels. Might make storage a bit easier for you with the larger machines. If you are set on Jet then you could look at putting a wheel kit on them.
