    Default Source for Lead

Anyone know the best (IE cheapest) place to get lead for making sinkers on the northside of Brissie.
I know it's cheaper to buy them but I enjoy making my own.
    Cheers

Tyre places for removed wheel weights, although this is harder than lead as its 10% tin.
They won't give you KG's but if you ask for enough to make some sinkers they should give you some.

Leadlight shop and ask for off cuts for sinkers, same deal, you're not going to get Kg's but enough for a good supply of sinkers.
And that will be all lead.

Offer to buy it as they only get a scrap price for it anyway and you could have all you need.

Avoid the smashing of car batteries to get to lead cells,
Nasty stuff comes off when you melt it, Its slow to melt and if you push it under to melt faster expanding gases make the molten mix explode all over you.
Ask my old gf's sister who still has a scar over her eyebrow from a big dollop.

I remember as a kid breaking down all the old batteries and melting them down oven an open fire to make sinkers

Try your local scrap metal dealer, they sell lead from the old house gutterings/downpipes/roofing etc

just to add to the car weights, if you add just a little of the old solder sticks, it seems to soften and flow a bit better

I gave up looking for lead. West coast river fishing in BC/Canada was costing me a fortune in lost gear in the rocks.
The fix: Switched to used spark plugs. No particular brand loyalty.
