So your going to break the log down & stack all the flitches somewhere, then bring the flitches back onto the carriage & resaw them. That will need some nice rollers & transfers for that to happen easily, it is slow & done but normally with girders & larger sections that are too big to handle by hand over the bench saw, I wouldn't want to do long smaller sections like that because without support the flitch would vibrate terribly in the saw with it trying to rip it off the carriage & out of the dogs.

shee wont break off, its not just welded around, it had groves ground in and high tensile tabs inserted and welded in and i will cross pin it.

i havent ever had a welded shaft break before.

have to put guards around it so it will be safe.

the shafts on slip clutches , mounting plates and a lot of other implements have welded shafts.

even the hub on Peterson mills is welded on or at least it used to be.

Probably not a case of if it ever breaks off, but just when it will break off.

had a look at weisyboy saw bench. Wrong bearings, they need to be sealed bearing blocks that can be adjusted. The bearing on the end closest to the saw needs to be held tight with a lock. The other bearing has to be able to float otherwise he will have nothing but trouble with the saws.
