    Default Avocado wood

    Hi ,
just wanted to know if anyone has had experience in milling avocado trees, info I can find is a bit hit and miss, I have access to some short lengths ( around 1m ) and don’t want to see any timber wasted, apparently nice to turn and off cuts pretty good in the smoker too. Your thoughts ?.
    regards,

I have a few very small branches and it seems the heart is VERY soft solid you can I would suggest cutting it out if possible - but I haven't had the chance to turn any yet

I had a few decent branches from the local farms ~0.5mm long x dia 150-200mm. Like any fruit and nut tree it loves to crack and warp, so I sealed ends then sliced it into 1" slabs on the bandsaw and stickered them (ice-cream sticks and cable ties) to dry (for future pens and boxes). A few years ago now (not so much into pens anymore) and look pretty good last I looked at them, nice creamy colour with yellowish tinge and streaks, but can't say I've turned any.

Hey thanks for the info gents, I get the logs in a week or so and will slice them into whatever I can , they range in diameter from 300-450 mm which I thought was pretty big for avocado so will keep you posted on the progress. I will cut some from 30-100mm thick and see how it holds up.
