    Default Bandmilling Bluegum

I put the Bandmill through it paces on the weekend with some Bluegum. A nice solid piece 600mm Dia. I managed to cut 5 Slabs off the log before the mill complained. The 20" Double B Pulley is a Taper Lock Type. I was only using the Taper lock Function to attach it to the Shaft. This has been working OK up until Now. Anyway the force applied by cutting a 600mm Wide slab is greater than the Grip applied to the Shaft by a taper lock Pulley!. I'm off to the Engineering works tommorrow to get a Keyway cut in the shaft. I'm also up for a new centre for the Taper lock pulley. Anyway you live and Learn!

bluegum has many uses if i could get enough of it i would cut 250 x 30 and use it for wide floor boards in my house when i get around to building it. its hard wearing but brittle when compared to most other hardwoods.

I am presuming this is Sydney Blue Gum (E.Saligna) as Southern Blue Gum (E. Globulus) only occurs down the botom end of Oz. The better specimens are extremely good. A friend once built a staircase out of it. Said it was the best timber he'd ever seen. I thinks he meant from that species. He was the manager of a sawmill.
