Not having a bar of it
The time has come for me to replace the 24" bar on My Solo 690. Am I a little out of touch with pricing? My local (at 80km make that nearest) dealer was a bit vague but said around $150. I don't know what brand, although I have reason to believe it was Oregon.
I started to do a little research as $150 seemed excessive and I have to say the dealer didn't inspire me with a huge amount of confidence when they said "that's a long bar." I replied that it was the standard bar on that saw.
It is a sprocket nose bar and runs a 3/8" pitch chain with a gauge of 0.058." Any thoughts on this and where my best option would be to source a new product. I have it in the back of my mind that someone on the forums supplies this gear, but the name escapes me.
Any advice is welcomed.
Regards and all the best for 2013.

I'd contact Sawchain (Laurie) who is a GB supplier - I buy chain rolls from him and his prices are very competitive. He also has a bunch of stuff on specials from time to time.

Paul, I recently bought chains for the slabber and my two Husky's was very happy with price, freight cost and also delivery time.
Last time I bought 24" bar for one of my saws, both 3/8 and.058 also it was $110I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

Al
Who did you buy through?
Sawchain doesn't appear to be on the forums anymore. I coudn't find him when searching through forum members and a PM to him advised me he was no longer available through the system. His web page lists other suppliers but apparantly not him. It is a little confusing as to what is going on.
I have been searching the web, but I have not purchased anything yet.

prices on bars
um maybe you might have to go to bigger smoke or suck it up. A stihl 27'' rollermatic bar cost $185 in grafton, next we'll all be whingeing about how greedy electric saw sharpener's are

Everything's cheaper in the big smoke , but the reason I was querying the $150 price was it seemed high. Just a cursory glance on ebay showed a resonable quality 24" bar for $95 and a GB bar with chain to suit for $145. Both of those prices include freight to me.
I like suporting local businesses, but a mark up of more than 50% is stretching the friendship .

I'll let you all into a secret... Check out TreeStuff.com Professional Arborist Supplies and Tree Climbing Gear I've bought a bit of stuff from them and am happy with their service. I'm with you I'll support local when I can but I refused to be raped on prices when you see what they must be getting it for.

I have to admit mate, I didn't really have it for long, my box of gear with bunch of miscellaneous spares, blue Bosch cordless drill, all my slabbing chains, Lucas yellow kit box and also the red slabbing tool box got flogged and I had only done a bit of hoop pine with it and a small amount of yellow stringy, it seemed to work well on them, but they both cut pretty easy so could be a bit of a false read on it, but it did work well for how long I had it Have you used any of it?
I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
