    Default Biggest Red Cedar yet!

Another dying tree, this time cut before sun checking started.

It is huge, butt is 4 metres long x 2-2.5 metres wide,. very little rot

Will cut end of month, expect some pretty good table tops!

    Regards

    Greg

Why would you saw it in the middle of summer?

The head of that log will cut some magnificent flame. Flame grain doesnt dry well in hot, dry weather.
I'd dig a hole and bury the bugger 'till autumn. Or cover it in a pile of sawdust.
I guess there must have been a good reason for felling at such a hot time of the year?

I'd like to know the answer to harvesting in the heat. We have such a shirtty selection of local hardwoods that anything like that is to die for.
If you need big logs, Google 'biggest red cedar log.' If that won't float your boat, add = catherdal grove.

If sawn properly, I could see that yielding some great, oldschool mahogany style crotch material for table tops etc.

    This kinda stuff:

If you get some stuff like that, let me know (seriously).

A great log. That's the type of stuff they say "you just can't get anymore".

    Cheers,

Nice log. That poor little Isuzu knew it was there.

Tree was dead standing, the bark just starting to come off the top branches
So no sap and very dry when cut.
We normally leave freshly cut logs 6-12 months before processing but no need with this dead tree.
Lucas mills only cut 2 metres wide, so that will be the table top widths I guess. I'll post when it is being cut

That is an impressive log Greg.
You must have been excited when you saw that it was solid right through.

    The grain should be amazing.
