blackwood question
hey guys,
can get my hands on a few aus blackwood log being felled.
But im not sure if its worth getting them milled. Diameter is roughly 450mm
Basically i want to get them quatered to make guitars down the track.
I only need, roughly 220mm bookmatched pieces for back and sides.
Soo my question is, will there be enough heart in these logs?
Thanks a bunchLast edited by joelham; 22nd May 2012 at 12:14 AM. Reason: forgot

I have have done with logs this size.I cut 5x1 and made a lovely chair out of it but i dont think you would get many 220s that wont end up degrading.

No show for 220s, you will have at least 25mm sapwood plus bark.

No good for guitars but you might get some uke back and side sets out of them. Also necks and neck blocks but you're really better off sourcing some bigger logs.
cheers
