Camphor Log
Just Had a week in Brisbane, hoped topick up som Camphor while down here but my plans were thrown into chaos. I put out a call on the forum and Neil came through with some great detective work to get me a lead on where I could organise some replacement logs.
I left brisbane 3:30am this morning,Cut a tree at Mullumbimby and had it back in Brisbane by Lunch. Below are some photos, I will add to the post when I put it throught the mill. The coulour looks good, I can't wait to open it up.

Looking good . Some of the best coloured Camphor Laurel in the world down that way.
The last lot I cut down that way was almost flouro orange from the saw, but then turned green within 0.5 hour and almost a dark cedar colour after a day or so, then mixed colours when dry. I haven't turned any yet, but below are some pen blanks I dried to see what colour they were (2nd and 5th blank on each line).

Sliced and Stacjked
Cut up the Camphor this morning. Bit warm to be doing this sort of thing, I would normally not cut any timber this time of the year. The timber cut quite easily and showed a lot of Colour. There was a fair bit of stress in the log, The slabs near the heart split within minutes of being cut, You could actually hear them pop. Attached are a couple of photos.

Looking good. Shame about the cracks, but look s like the centre slabs, so split along the pith.
Look forward to catching up Thursday.
