    Default A flood of work

Was brought face to face with a rather unexpected consequence of the Brisbane flood yesterday when I took one of my saws along to Corinda mowers for a service and some minor repairs. "It'll be a wait of at least 5 weeks".

It seems that every man and his dog had a mower, whipper-snipper, edge trimmer, etc in the garage when it got flooded and they need them either repaired or written off for insurance.

So I'll have to do the work myself.
    Cheers,
    Craig

Thats a bit of a bugger. I assume you are referring to a chainsaw not one of the lucasses.
I am told that sharpening handsaws is a dying art.... this must mean I am an artisan.

Get your handsaws sharpened properly to the highest possible standard, the only way they should be done, BY HAND, BY ME!!! I only accept perfection in any saw I sharpen.

Watch out Nifty, I might take you up on that .

It was a Shindaiwa 757. I've done the tune, but I'm not real confident dressing the bar. I might be after this one.

You will be right just take the lip off till the rails are flat and square to each other, when they are run the file at a 45 deg angle lightly in the groove to remove any burr from filing and give the sides of the shoulders a very light champher, just enough that the edge doesn't feel sharp. If you do it regularly it makes it easier, generally if you have a lip greater than about 0.5 mm I would dress it, makes it easy and only takes a few minutes with a flat file or you can invest in a bar dresser.

Thanks Travis. I know what to do and I've dressed this bar and others before, but I prefer to get the pros to do it because I never seem to get it properly square. The eyes ain't what they used to was, but I've got a new pair of specs and that might make the difference.
    Cheers,
