    Default flooded gum

not a bad size tree really.

had to do this big flooded log,

tree loppers had headed it and left the big limbs for us to mill, branches up to 30" diametre.

cut them up on mon / tue it took us ages as we had to rotate them 90* and roll them down into teh mill, also spent about 5 hours trying to get my 3120 xp going, turnes out it had busted the top off the cylinder, ill post pics of that when i pull it down.

i had to break my golden rule (never lend a chainsaw) and borrow niels 660. big thanks mate, your a lifesaver.

packed some big blocks on the downhill side encase the log tried to take off when it hit the ground.

she had a big lean backwards (about 18 deg) i decided it was to far to wedge so put a 20 ton jack in the back.

after a lot of sweat and wedge hammering and jacking it finnaly went over, had to lift the back 8" before it went. we also had the winch rope on the front to make sure it didnt go back if it wanted to go back it probably woulda just pulled me ute inhalf.

ended up exactly where it should have. and dug a good hole.

the stump with my 460, 20" bar and plumb axe.

to show how mutch weight was leaning back, the jack compressed 2" into teh end grain.

so by 6pm on Tuesday we had over 8m3 of log on the ground.

come 7am next morning we were ready to go, had to cut the middle section out and winch it down the hill so i could get the mill setup around the top and bottom. ute would only just pull 2.4m section down the hill. one end at a time.

started on the first section 4m long

little bit of dose near the pipe.

had that section done by lunchtime (1pm)

then the top section 3.5m long, then down to the middle section 2.4m long

by this time it was 6pm, got packed up and outa there by 7 after a beer and snag ofcorse.

but i tell ya what cutting 8m3 of log in 1 day inst something id recommend trying, reaching way up there to swing the blade, iv got so many sore muscles today i can hardly work.

few pics of teh mountain of timber and a few slabs we cut.

almost enough to build a house.

oh yer it was 4'6" accross the but, and 10.4m long, still 4' at the 21' mark.

Happy to help mate. Good to give the beast a run with the 4' blade, the sprocket needed a bit of lube The 5' blade is still a virgin

a tip when tree jacking use a 4'' x 4'' x 3/8'' steel plate on top of the jack it will stop the jack pressing into the end grain

who's woried aboout the maths on it either way thats a lot of lift with the jack.
good thing you had the jack, i wouldnt like to be using wedges to lift that much thats a lot of swinging with the axe or hammer need to stop for stubby break half way through.

had to flog wedges in to the jack wouldn't lift on its own. there is no way it would have lifted just on wedges.

jack is good, i had to put my whole weight on teh handle to get it to pump, if i drove wedges to it was lots easier.

with teh back lean there was a lot of weight siting back, as it got straighter it got easyer.
