Hi Ash
it may pay to check your numbers.
As I understand it, your truck has GVM of 7 Tonne and a tare of 3 tonne.
that means you can carry 4 tonne on the tray, or
1 tonne on the tray and tow 3 tonnes (including the weight of the trailer)
To carry 4 tonne and tow 3, would require the GVM be 10 Tonnes.regards from Alberta, Canada

Mine is a 6 cylinder, 4.1 liter diesel. It has the 5 speed with hi/lo ratio, so effectively a 10 speed.
I've just had a look at the rego label, its GVM of 7030kgs and a GCM of 10530 kgs. It's a pretty gutsy little truck, but not very fast up hills!
I picked up a load of timber for my local Men's Shed yesterday and I could hardly tell I had a load onboard.
I'm hoping to get a call from the transport company tomorrow saying the mill is ready to pick up? I'll probably have to wait till Wednesday before I get a day off work.

I think the weights and descriptions of vehicle capacities are almost designed to confuse and contribute to the coffers when you fall foul of the law.
We are probably getting combination weight mixed up with maximum vehicle weight. Hardly surprising really.
Good that your vehicle has the two speed diff. It really makes a difference.

I would still seriously consider a side mount winch. Much better log loading from the side rather than the rear. I have a large trailer for logs which had a winch mounted on the draw bar for rear loading. It was a PITA. Every log had to be skull dragged all the way on and multiple tiers of logs was near impossible. By removing the winch to a side mount position the logs are rolled up into position and multi levels is a breeze. I have a snatch block on the front of the trailer should I need to winch on from the rear. I dont think I've ever used it, but I know it will come in handy some day.

I hope it brings you a lot of pleasure. It should and Lucas certainly look after you.
