I would be hesitant wetting the log though...or covering it with carpet...for this reason
Southern Silky Oak is prone to blue stain fungus if subjected to periods of damp conditions...don't let it sweat so to speak
And can penetrate quite deeply into the log,beyond the sap margin...degrading the appearance of the sawn product somewhat
Wax emulsion both ends and store in a cool,protected,dry environment until milling.
Borers are a definite headache with this species whilst in a 'green' state...they will walk off with the log if one is not careful...MMMapleman

MM is dead right. I must be getting old. Completely forgot about silkie and blue stain.
I use the felt with Cedar at this time of year but silkie is a very different kettle of fish. My apologies for the bum steer.
