I'm here. Is the log still available Denn? I will be bringing the trailer home from school empty in the next day or so and could throw it in if it can be manhandled?

Went and checked out the log this afternoon. It is larger than I expected but it's a bit of a mongeral and has been butchered by someone trying to cut it into sections. As a free log it was not worth it to set up and mill on site for nothing but the timber. I have however done a deal with the owner and will be cutting it up and getting rid of it for him for a minimal cost.

Part of me says just cut it into rounds and take it home for next years firewood but it is just down the road from school so I think I will probably cut it into 200 x 50's for use as garden bed retaining as I know I can use it straight away, minimise transport and make the job a better paying one at the same time.

Given this, if anyone local wants some jarrah boards cut to specification from it I am happy to cut them for you and you can have them for the price I sell landscape timber at. The only catch is you must be able to pick them up from site on the day, I won't be transporting them anywhere at this price. It will be cut some time next week, PM me if you are interested or want to drop by for a look.

Not a fun log by the looks Mike. I can only assume a log of that size was fallen by a proffessional.Having said that, why is it that most tree surgions cant cut large sections that cant be mulched into decent billets? Its got me

Yeh! I see what you mean, That's not at all what was described to me. Mind you, I should have guessed - my contact has a habit of bringing me "useful" items ?? but then again; if we don't look we don't gain.

It was felled by his brother I think. I am starting to think that I can get all my decking ballustrate posts cut out of it instead of using a spotty log I was going to use. Only need to be 1500 long and it is a pretty decent diameter at the base so I reckon I will give it a go. They need to be 200x75 so if they don't suit posts I can still use them as garden sleepers

Think I will cut along the left shorter side of the log first (past the crutch) then either roll the log or reposition the mill to get the meat off the other side. Maybe some 60x60 tree stakes and a heap of firewood should do the rest. It is definitely going to keep me wam next winter and be nice being paid to cut timber for myself.

You gotta go and look, otherwise you might miss the one that is actually 1m across and 6m long, but most of them shrink over night
