    Default King Billy Pine

Is it still possible to get King Billy Pine at a relatively affordable price or is it scarcer than Huon Pine?

I have a boat which may need some lengths of the timber for restoration:

Being in Adelaide I'd imagine I'd need to buy a quantity to make it worth while if shipping etc starts to come into it.

I've been out of the forest industry for 5 years now but yes, scarcer than Huon. Once you know what quantity you want I would suggest you contact Island Specialty Timbers at Geevston. An alternative to King Billy may be Celery Top Pine. Other than IST you could try Wynwood Sawmill near Wynyard or Tasmanian Special Timbers at Queenstown.

King billy has been harder to obtain than huon for the last 20 years or more, as it is nearly all locked up in World Heritage Areas or National Parks. I salvaged lots of king billy 20 years ago under craft permits that was felled around WW2, but just in slabs. Most of the small quantities obtained find there way into the musical instrument market. I may be able to help you with the kb, but have huon as an alternative, both in 25mm and 40mm boards.

    Cheers
