Thanks for the thought Sigidi. Love Qld but a bit far to drag logs.

I know Wandoo is tough on gear Burnsy. I wonder if I should cart it to a traditional mill. Do you know of any? Yellow pages and Google aren't much help.

Don't know of any mills, Nifty may be able to help with that but you are probably best with a Lucas if you only have a few logs, I did an old tuart that had been sitting dead for 20 odd years and that was hard but not impossible, just had to keep the blade touched up and take it slow. If you can't get comgreserv or milwise on here interested drop Lucas a line and ask them for a list of Lucas operators over in the west.

Wouldnt go there mate. Bandsaw or swing blade. Wandoo is great stuff and cut heaps of it but it needs to be done fresh down, it is hard going. Did some wandoo once that had been down for about 12 months and i actually saw sparks come of the blade as it entered the log

    Hi gclark,

    You could try these guys.

Bish's Timber Supplies - Australian Native Timber and Mill

No affiliation, never dealt with them, just saw the site.
Grew up in Narrogin even did some time in Brookton, where I found I don't like most farmers very much. Hope your not one of them.

    Hey Nifty,
Sorry about the long silence. Been fishing and crabbing down Safety Bay and Mandurah.
Thanks for the advice. The last time I saw sparks was when we milled old jetty pylons in Albany. Those barnacles were tough on the saws and ponged as well.

    Steve,
Thanks for the link. I think I will wait until the weather cools. Have found a young bloke with a Lucas out towards Corrigin so I might give him a go.
I'm not a farmer but I have some good mate who are. They are not all bad but there are some shockers about. There are plenty of retired farmers from here that are living in Mandurah Some even like working with wood
You must tell me your story one day.
    Thanks again, Gary

Only an idea, would it work if you chucked the log in a dam for a little while and then mill it once it was sodden? Will it work I wonder? Others? My much more experienced elders... Where are you? Lol!

It is an idea but not sure about the logistics. The logs are bloody big and I read somewhere that wandoo is about the same density as water (1 tonne per m3). I would be stuffed if it sank.
I milled some jetty pylons (Jarrah and Tingle) back in the 80's and from memory it was just like milling green timber. That timber would have been green when it went in the water though.
