Eli, if it's got and 8" throat, I think you'll have trouble putting 6" hardwood cants through it.
I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

    Eli,
I have a vertical resaw and you are on the right track with the carriage idea. Pushing a cant through a band resaw without a carriage results in a very ordinary cut. The slightest movement makes the cut wooble. I have seen home made carriages that hold the cant firm and run parrallel to the saw but they are usually only for small pieces. You might struggle to make something that is big enough to hold the size you mentioned.
My saw has a power feed that holds the cant against a roller fence.

    cheers

The original cut has to be straight. To take out a bow you need something like WRB has demonstrated. Probably something on a larger scale with a permanent metal carriage on bearings.
I have tried to free hand cants through to straighten them but find it impossible even with infeed and out feed trolleys and live rollers. It is easily done on a circular saw bench but I can't do it on the bandsaw.

That looks very handy. What size and type of blade do you use?

    Hi Paul,
I have three types that I use, woodslicer for a thin dry veneers in not too hard timbers, thin kerf, 3/4" wide 3 to 4 variable pitch tpi, the lennox woodmaster B 1 1/4" wide 1 tpi for green stuff and the lennox woodmaster CT 1" wide 1.3" tpi for everything else and maybe for stuff I should change the blade for but don't.

Hi Eli, standard, it came with a 2hp, but I changed it to a 3kw (4hp) 3ph for more grunt and I changed the pulley ratio for more blade speed

Electrical upgrade to suit the motor you decide on, blade speed, for a 1 hp unit blade speed will most likely be on the slow side, guides, for starters
