Default Milling my own timber just starting

    Hi lads
im just starting building a mill with a chainsaw so I can access large trees on site on my property as it's very rocky and harsh granite country with great timber and difficult to get to with machines so I'm looking forward to the challenge
I have a old stihl 050 av I'm thinking of putting on a 36 inch plus size bar
I already changed my farm boss to a 20 inch and it handles all hardwoods easily so I think the big old girl will be fine

anyone else milling with chainsaws on here
there's some great designs in the USA
im still looking at the skip chains and different variations so any feedback would be great
most of the timber is red gum iron bark stringy and a few others I haven't even identified as I been away from this property 15 years and just move d back in
I'm looking to cut slabs for tables bench tops and other projects as well as 8x2 boards
anyhow I'm new here and look forward to reading heaps
    cheers

Yep it will be fine with a 36" bar. You should learn how to set rakers using the "progressive" method to make the most out of a lower revving machine like an 050.
I'd be looking at a raker top angle of round 7º

I've been CS milling since 2007 and have made 4 CS mills
Do a search for the BIL mill and my user name and lots of stuff will come up.

Some interesting designs in this forum too

I used skip chains on about 30 logs but I found I was pulling saws out of logs to sharpen them too often which is a right PITA.
Full comp chain takes longer to sharpen but stays sharp longer,
