Thanks for reply Sigidi, is that type of tree worth milling and does it come close to looking any thing like the messmate you spoke about in a differant thread (Gympie messmate)

    Question

I don't think it's Messmate. Looks more like Red Stringy, as Sigidi says.

hey. my guess is messmate but its hard to tell without seeing it but the bark fibers look much shorter and shallower than a stringy's ...Eucalyptus obliqua (messmate) commonly known as Australian oak, brown top stringybark and Tasmanian oak (native to south-eastern Australia) up to 90metres tall with a girth of up to 3metres ...this tree is often thought of as a stringybark, but its fibers are shorter!! Messmate's bark is brownish and rough, thick and fibrous persisting to the upper smaller branches. glossy green leaves from 6 to 22 cm long ,2 to 7 cm wide. seven to 15 white flowers and barrel-shaped fruits.

Take a look here, my money is still on pic 2&4 bein red stringy - one of my favorites, cuts great n looks better, only drawback is its internal use.

If the upper part of the trunk and branches are white and smooth it could be a woollybutt(Eu.miniata), the leaves look right.

Thanks for reply, but the bark is fairly much the same all over.
