Who Sells Good Safety Gear
Hi fellas,
I am looking at finally getting a set of leggings, plus a hard hat / visor setup to wear out in the scrub. I have been getting away without these for years but the missus has put her foot down and wants me to get a bit of protective gear.
I mostly cut & rip split posts, plus a bit of rural fence construction on the side. I also have a home made mill hooked up to the 880 that I use for a few slabs when the itch needs scratching.
What you guys suggest I use for this style of work? Who has bought what from where, what is good gear and what is not.
I am a Stihl man thru and thru but for safety gear I don't care where I get it from, as long as it is worth the money.
Cheers fellas...
Matt

By leggings I assume you mean "Chaps" as opposed to "yoga pants"?
I got two pairs from Labonville in the US (https://www.labonville.com/Labonvill...ing_c_430.html)
I have a standard pair of full wrap chaps and a pair of competition chaps - they are extra thick so are too hot for summer but OK in winter.
Their chaps are easily as good as the big brand names but has the price.
For ear muffs you can go past the Peltor H10 series so make sure your hard hard uses these.
I had a Stihl Helmet given to me with these on but I prefer using an Armadillo 3D Face Shield and separate Peltor muffs.
I also recommend the Stihl braces to hold up the Chaps.

Try also your local Stihl or Husqvarna shop. Chaps can be a pain and these days they make decent light weight jean like milling pants for Qld

Well, you being a Stihl man.....The Stihl "chaps" have improved in the last couple of years, they re-designed the straps at the back of the legs and I find them easier to walk around in than the last set I bought. Their hard-hat/ear muffs/safety visor is OK to wear, seems to work ok when I walk into low branches. Some sort of tool belt would be handy for carrying plastic wedges, saw spanners, tape measure, first aid kit and Glucose supplements. A mobile phone pouch would be handy, perhaps it could be incorporated into a set of shoulder straps / braces? The "chaps" also work well with a brush-cutter/weed-eater. Multi-tasking at it's best.

BobL,
I ended up getting a set Stateside, half the price that I could score a set in Oz so thanks for that.
They look like they will do the job, that is for sure.
