Wow, never seen one straight as a dye like that for so far. Was it growing amongst other trees and growing towards the light so to speak?

I'd have to say yes and no to that Neil, was on a very steep block, but knowing the area it doesn't get a lot of sun on the ground in the morning and there was a lot of moss on the pavers near the tree.

I had a neighbour in Townsville who had 4 trees like that & he was worried about cyclones so he cut them down and chopped them into blocks about 700mm long so he could lift them by hand to take them to the dump.

I got a couple of the smaller ones before they were all gone.

Some of my tool handles are made of them & I still have a couple of candle stick holders made from them.

Then there was Larry, remember Larry & the silky oak on my shed?

You have to look back to 2006 to find the story.

I had a log of about 4M of clear southern silky leaning against my shed waiting for a crane to lift it off & the stupid FAQn Fireies turned up one day while I was at work & cut it into little pieces because it was 'Dangerous' geeze I was mad about that, I still am 'cos there was no law to stop them from doing it & I couldn't get any compensation for it.
