Default Any small timber millers active around Gold Coast hinterland?

We are looking for a small timber miller around the SE Qld/Northern NSW area who might be able to help us source some mini slabs to use as deck hand rail on our new reno project at Tamborine Mountain.

I dont know of any portable type millers close but Uki Sawmills are still operating and I imagine would be the closest fixed mill to you. They got a website.

Also if you go to the Lucas Mills site they have a sawmilling contractors list which will help you find any operators close to you.

Dai Sensei (Neil) has a large assortment of timbers and he's based locally on the coast.

Thanks George, but I don't have any timbers suitable for outside in the weather in the sizes required, unless the railings are sheltered from the weather. If it's sheltered give me a call on 0417 782 204 I have Red Cedar/Camphor Laurel/Crows Ash/Blackwood and other smaller stuff, depending on what you call mini.

If outside you could try Tex Timbers on 0455 958 319. He is usually at the markets at Tamborine Showgrounds each month too.

Tom I'll give you a call as soon as we have a moment. We are in the crazy part of moving at the moment and can't find time to scratch ourselves.

Hi , I only just found this thread but just wanted to know if you are still looking for slabs for your hand rails? As I have some fully seasoned slabs that may suit. You can get me on 0450884281.
    Regards,
    Rod.

Gidday Stephen. I happened to run into a neighbour couple of days ago who has bought a (non-hydraulic) Norwood (it may be a "39") with which he is not all that impressed! In conjunction with Southern Cross Uni, a partner in this venture, general opinion seems to be that poor materials/design are key factors behind the general level of disappointment. In your opinion, does this animal qualify as a "lemon"? These people are hoping to start up a Northern Rivers "selective felling/milling" operation, focussing on Qld Maple, Silky Oak, Camphor and possibly a new candidate, Quondong. A number of land holders (myself included) in Whian Whian are quite interested in getting involved. Your thoughts on the Norwood machinery would be most welcome!

Hi Pat and welcome to the forum.
You'd probably get a better response to this if you started a new thread citing the machine name in the subject line.
    Cheers,
    David
