Default What TPI for bandsaw resawing

    Hi all,
Am after suggestions on what TPI I should be using to resaw upto 100mm thick green hardwood and pine. Bandsaw is a 3 ph "meber" with a band length of 4400mm. After discussing it with a new saw doctor we wnet with 4 TPI on a 16mm wide band. Tried it tonight and it was pretty disappointing. I'm guessing I need 2 or even 1 TPI as I am after speed and not concerned about finnish. Timber I tried it on was 40mm thick semi dry pine. Ps sparky who put new plug on it tonight suggested the motor looked small for a bandsaw of its size... Any comments would be great as always.

    I always used 1tpi on a 20 or 25mm wide band.
    Awsome.
I got them from Henry bros.

Sounds like way too many tpi to me for green wood, I'd be going for 1tpi or even less

Ta muchly for your prompt response. I have used 1 tpi on a much larger bandsaw and wasn't sure if it was applicable on a smaller machine.
    Cheers
ps does $38 sound right for my 4400mm long 4 tpi band?

On my bandsaw mill I use 1.5TPI and 1TPI on a 1 1/4 wide blade. Particularly with green timber you need the large gullet to remove the sawdust. Pricing will depend on type of blade you use, but Henry Bros are a very reputable firm.

What size is the motor and is the saw vertical or horizontal? A vertical saw will be less trouble for you.

Ended up going back to the saw doc who does my lucas blades and he recommended 1.5tpi on a 32mm wide band. Worked much better than the other one. Am unsure of the size of the motor and fear that it may have been spec'd down for high school use. Will try new belt as it is sitting fairly low in the pulley.
