Types of wood.
OK guys, I just joined up and the first thing I want to do is ask a question. Hope this is the right sub-forum.
I have a paperbark tree in my front yard which has got pretty big, and is also leaning over quite a bit. It's also starting to put cracks in the driveway. I reckon it's time for it to go. I only have a 1780 Watt electric chain saw. So, is paperbark a hardwood tree, and how hard is it? Would that chainsaw get through it alright? The thickest part of the trunk is about two feet.
Thanks.

Paperbark produces a very hard wood. I doubt if will have much success with such a small saw. It probably has a short blade too
Better to have it cut professionally (and safely) cut down by an experienced tree feller with a bigger saw. My advice ... for what its worth

Uh-oh, just what I didn't want to hear...
But thanks for the tips, gents. That's very helpful, and gives me something to think about.
Cheers.

UPDATE: Well I went ahead and tackled it with my little chainsaw, and managed to fell it without any trouble. I cut at a higher part of the trunk, where it was about 18 inches thick. No probs. Probably saved myself at least $1000, probably more.
