Yes, the resident furniture maker also makes shingles.
These are split in the traditional fashion.
Don't forget to pop in to the Hastings Woodworkers Guild Shed which is up the track to Bago Railway Station - past the old school and opposite the model trains Track.
    Cheers

Will do. My Dad lives at Crescent Head, so I just might have to visit him soon.

Many a pleasant trip to Timbertown in years when it was in full swing. Sadly no photo's I can recall taken. To hear the steam saws operating, the Bullock team hauling logs around, the smell of fresh cut wood and baking bread.

Thanks for posting the pics. That grey and orange/red CS on the top shelf looks like it an old Stihl Contra, very collectible!

thanks for the pics Inter. Just a question, do they still run any of the mill plant?

I guess the photo of the stump is showing how not to leave one.
I am told that sharpening handsaws is a dying art.... this must mean I am an artisan.

Get your handsaws sharpened properly to the highest possible standard, the only way they should be done, BY HAND, BY ME!!! I only accept perfection in any saw I sharpen.

There wasn't any being split while we were there, as scribbly said the furniture guy splits them & sells them for $3 each , probably to order though

The steam engine shown in the pic is operating & runs directly by pulleys & belts, the frame saw, saw bench. The steam it produces runs the bench feed steam engine & the big sliding blade docking saw. All the timber is static so there is no sawn timber or sawdust being produced.
Its not often you see a slabbed up stump anywhere.

I could show you plenty of slabbed up stumps left by sleeper cutters in the bush inter. Not a good thing but they did happen especially felling with the mobilcos and such.

Might have been why they got such a bad reputation as a widow maker.
I've personally have seen maybe a dozen slabbed up stumps left standing in the bush over 40 something years, minus the two I have done myself & the one above, not real common up this way. I have seen more of them on TV watching the US Axemen series.
    regards inter
