warrior at maleny
A few pics of a days milling at the Maleny Wood expo using the Weekend Warrior 8" .
Timber was yellow stringy, blue gum and silky oak.
The 395xp did a good job. Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they
bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs .

The Timber.
Hi Fubar,
Hey, that is an impressive array of Timber.
Did you get to sell a bit, or were you just going to take it Home.Regards,
issatree.

Fubar - was it you using it? or did you just take some pics?
Pity you had to setup in one spot then move down the track to your logs - I was told it took 6 blokes to move it...is that normal? I would have thought it'd be quick to move.
Was it first time it had been setup? seemed to take a long time for two blokes to setup too...
Didn't handle 8" horizontal cuts nicely, bogging down a bit and having to back out and go back - I don't know much about them, can the horizontal be done a couple of bites to make it a bit easier on the saw??I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

Hi Alan, it was me that was demoing the saw at the show. Unfortunately I got there around 1pm as my baggage was lost at the airport. I spent a while adjusting things and tightening things before we started using the saw (took longer than I had hoped). Had to shift it around as you mentioned, in that particular case we chose to just lift the complete mill over to the log rather then disassemble it. Saved time. The next day was pure milling. We had the 395xp on it (not the saw I'd recommend for hardwood). That being said I think it did well. Surprisingly better than I expected. I've been recommending the 880 and 3120xp for Aus. We made due with what was available. Also went away from the show with some nice ideas to strengthen areas of the mill up (regarding beam and post rigidity). This was really my first go in Aus. hardwoods with the 8" Warrior model. Since returning we have implemented the upgrades with fantastic results. Feel free to email me if you'd like detail. FYI we will be demonstrating an 18hp 4-stroke Warrior with all these upgrades at the NZ National Fieldays this year! Here is the uploaded video footage of the 395xp cutting Yellow stringy at the show. http://youtu.be/8DR0YvL6XJI

Nah Jake, I'm no-one special mate, I do do a reasonable amount of time on my Lucas, but given the right circumstances and the space, I can roll the carriage on its wheels and move the frame (setup) on my own - not talking putting it over my shoulder kinda moving.
So is the warrior half the weight of a Lucas or half the weight of the machine you used to own?
Also, sorry forgot to ask, can the horizontals be done in a couple of passes to ease the strain or do they have to be done full width?I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

Hi Alan, yes for sure you can do it in two passes. Also moving the mill in Maleny was more to do about people wanting to contribute rather than what was needed. Normally the power head is removed or the weight is transferred allowing the other end to be lifted up and swivelled sideways 3m. The weight is 165kg, I believe the Lucas is around 350?
We were out testing our 4-stroke unit today. Brings the weight up to around 200kg with that one. So currently looking at a dolly system for moving the carriage. However the motor is currently easily removable reducing the bulk weight. Should have youtube footage up for viewing tomorrow.
Cheers
Jake
