Hiya Folks, have been milling up a yellow cedar, nice timber! has anyone had experience with Milling this timber?
I was curious as to how it will dry? i.e spliting, cupping etc... it it well stickered and under cover.

Yellow cedar is quite easy to dry if handled properly. As you have missed the slow drying of winter, it would be wise to seal the ends and start stickers right at the board ends. May be a good idea to double sticker the ends to be on the safe side.

yellow cedar pics
cedar.jpgWhat a mission just took me 45mins to work out how to upload a pic with windows 7.
I thought some of you may be interested to see the unusual grain. I cut these at 100mm thick for bowl blanks.
the bottom 5 ft of the tree was almost bulbous. the top 18ft straight grained. I hope the detail is visible in the pic.
