2012 Sydney Wood show feedback
Hi all, what did everyone think of the Sydney show on the weekend, particularly the new venue? By the end of the day I was slightly disappointed. There seemed to be less exhibitors, notably no Makita stand! (Mind you when they bowed to pressure to drop their prices and start making everything in china and malaysia they lost me as a customer).
I also had 3 things on my list (only small but nonetheless) from 3 different exhibitors and by mid morning staurday when I went to purchase I was told they had none left!
I'd like to hear what everyone elses experiences were like.

We spoke to many of the visitors & nearly everyone had positive things to say about it, a lot of people said that the venue felt smaller but I can safely say that it was definatly bigger, our stand was over 30% bigger than the year before. The design of the venue tends to make it feel & seem different as its all under one roof. It was a big risk moving venues & trust me for all the exhibitors & organisers there were many sleepless nights pondering what was going to happen. The main thing is it was a success & has plenty of room to expand in the future as this venue has other halls connected to it

I spoke to many exhibitors and one particularly expressed his corcern with the change of venue and what effect it would have, etc. As a passionate woodworker I would turn up regardless of when and where it was held. Maybe for the exhibitors changing the time from the end of a financial year to the beginning of one was the worrying thing??

each year i come back from the show thinking its getting smaller. I love the new location, because its close to me. I wish Bosch and Hitachi power tools would be there too, to give some good comparisons.
The show these days is nothing like the size it used to be maybe 6 ~8 years ago.
Even previous years there would always be a big feedback thread!

From the responses we had all was good for the show and the move proved it was a great venue.
We now look forward to next year.
Complain to the companies concerned that did not turn up. Give them feedback direct.
The organisers can only ask them to attend then it is up to them to make the decision whether it is worth thier time and effort to go.
Complaints from you the visitors to bosch etc direct may change their attitude to the shows.Jim Carroll

Boutique Timbers
Mal was worried, at his age any change is a concern.....however being inside was great, he has suffered cold and rain for the past 6-7 years and although the wood didn't get to show its colour through rain, it didn't get dangerously wind blown, nor sun checked either.
The parcel pickup worked a treat for timber, better than stuffing slabs through the fence.
Having all the exhibitors and demonstrators together was a positive as it seemed to bring the show together and the singing reverberated around the dome
The crowds were fine, food was OK and everyone seemed to have a good time.
He considered it a success and looks forward to next year.

Thanks for the advice Jim,
I've sent one to each of Bosch Australia, Hitachi Australia & Makita Australia; each had a email reply straight off there website..
I marked them "attn Australian Manager" and noted there absents from a great Sydney Wood Show.
Dear XXXXX Australia Manager,
I was very disappointed that xxxxx Power Tools were not at the recent Sydney Timber & Working With Wood show.
There were quite a number of other power tool suppliers with great stands, demos & show deals but no xxxxx.
Please can you ensure that xxxxxx is well represented at next years show, thank you.
Cheers, ............................................
