Perhaps they could have done better to advertise it. However I feel for them in this regard. It is now more difficult to reach the right people. People get their entertainment by selective means via the internet. E.G. this forum. It takes more market research to know how to reach the right people. I don't know what they did to reach out.

They did make a few mistakes. They could have leveraged this forum better. They set up a Facebook page, but you couldn't read it unless you were a member of Facebook. So many woodies are not on or not interested in Facebook. It needed to be freely available to anyone to view. They setup a website but there was little information on it. There wasn't even a program / list of vendors on it, until just before the event. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if they spent a small fortune on advertising which simply did not reach enough of the right people.
Also they were disadvantaged because normally word of mouth would work for them but in this case people have all but abandoned the old show and so they had to not just reach people but also convince people to come back and give it another shot. I hope my video has helped them in this regard.
That is the sort of thing that organisers can learn and improve on with time.

Looking back I think the main problem is that they need a venue where parking is free. They gained very little by having it in the RNA showgrounds. It is not like passing traffic is a thing there. People need to come by car to such an event. End of story. We are all used to driving distances and we all hate paying for parking at the best of times. Parking at that venue is some of the most expensive in Brisbane and woodies don't live in the CBD. Hence it's a major mismatch for their audience.

Default Thanks for the valuable feedback

Thank you everyone for the valuable feedback. The shows in the old format have been in decline for many years due but our aim is to revive the shows. Brisbane was our first of our shows in the new format and it will take us some time to grow and evolve the shows. We are working hard to encourage new visitors and exhibitors to attend and bring creativity to the community and inspire more people to make and create.

Our Brisbane show was promoted by the following media and our upcoming Sydney show is also getting a big media push:
    - 5 weeks of Bus Advertising
    - Woodworking Magazine advertising
    - Advertising via Facebook & Instagram
    - Drive time Radio Advertising
    - Via the Exhibitors own promotional activities
    - Community event pages
    - Promotion via the venue
    - Posters in local areas

However as mentioned above, it is important that we all work together to revive these show. We are working hard with our exhibitors to encourage them to bring specials and offers that customers want; as well as demonstrations that people want to see.
Our Brisbane event was in a venue across the road from the old venue, and while parking was high in the main parking building, there was also many other parking facilities and transport options in the local area. The key is to find a venue to cater to what we need and within an accessible area for our visitors. We are excited to announce that Sydney (7-9 June) will have FREE onsite parking! )

Please keep giving us feedback - it is important to us and we are listening. Please contact us via our new website: Timber, Tools & Artisan Shows | Timber and Working with Wood Show

Please see attachment with details about the remaining shows in 2019.

I am really looking forward to the Melbourne show this year, back at the showgrounds.

Moving back to the Showgrounds should solve a couple of problems such as disability access and parking for trailers.

The 2018 Melbourne show was the best one for quite a few years and had an optimistic feel to it. I hope exhibitors and attendees give it a fair chance and support it in 2019
I got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.
