    Default Brisbane TWWS - Who's going ?

I have had a look at the Floor Map and list of exhibitors/Demonstrators and it appears that the show has reduced to 1 building and the outdoor area. (I remember when it was spread over 3 buildings with 3 Demonstration stages)

It looks more like a Trade Show with very few demonstrations showing techniques and knowledge sharing.

The show has been shrinking for a few years now and I am seriously weighing up whether it is worth the visit. I wonder if the internet has made some of these types of shows less appealing. Woodturning with Theo Haralampou and watching Steve Hay are always great but not sure if the value is there anymore.

Not even sure if McJings are setting up this year.....Is Jim Carroll there this year ?

    Any thoughts or feedback?

Hi Skot, Went yesterday what a disgrace, so many exhibitors on the missing list will not be going again next year. Went for a Dremel 4000, no stall, Caba-tec seem more interested in selling machinery than hand tools etc. Had to order what I wanted for delivery by mail. Brian.

Its a real shame to see the wood shows reduced to this.
I havent attended a show for quite a few years due to time restraints with owning my own business. Looking like I wont be going to one again in the future.
At least I can look forward to getting to the Maleny show one day hopefully.

    Ironwood,

I think Maleny is much better.......missed this year due to being away in Tasmania but will try to make it next year.

TWWS is not on my list to do this weekend.

    Durham Lad,

Were the prices on the gear you bought worth the saving considering the price of parking and admission

Skot, The answer is no Carba-tec has 10%off for the show and free postage for small items, not a good deal with entry fee and parking. Cheers Brian.

Went Friday to the show. Bought a ticket to go back but didn't bother. Very disappointed at the number of exhibitors. I believe the problem lies with the cost to have a stall. I heard one guy saying it's something like $1500. If that's the case the organisers need to reduce the cost.
Wanted to buy some materials for box making but couldn't get them. Maleny was great but don't think I'll bother going back next year to the Brisbane show unless they have a big rethink.

Spreading negativity towards the show will more than likely see it disappear which is a shame. i didn't need to go but i went because i want it to continue and I'm glad i did go because i picked up some nice timbers. Its a small price to pay to see a variety of products in one place and not have to trawl through the internet.

    Boutique Timbers
Mal was there and had the best show for years, he did say that exhibitors were down, but not timber exhibitors.
He was happy and I guess so were timber purchasers

I work in a different industry but I find the people that run these expos are out of touch. They have an inflated idea of the benefits for exhibitors. For the costs involved the majority of potential vendors will find its unrealistic. They usually get just the large companies with big marketing budgets and they think this is a great business model. In fact it gradually fails to stack up for most businesses and most industries. However I don't see it changing because they make plenty from the sectors where it does work.

Went to my first show this year and was a little bit disappointed. For starters when I got to the RNA showgrounds I couldn't actually find the show - No one seemed to mention where it was and there was no signage until you got to the pavilion it was in. The exhibits were pretty good, but as a beginner I found them a bit out of my reach and more suited for the expert woodworker. Whole thing just gave me plane envy as I am not really prepared to pay $300 for a plane but wish I was. The demonstrations were just announced and there was not really any way to work your day out around it. Having said that I will probably go back next year and hit up Maleny as well.

it is the incredible shrinking show! Much smaller than last year and I felt sorry for this small vendors that did set up. It is really too bad if it is dying; it usually attracts vendors from northern NSW which don't make the trip to Maleny. Very sad indeed.

I ended up missing it as i didn't get over my cold, its still hanging around after a week

Im glad i got to go to Maleny for my wood show fix, will be there again next year.

Hopefully, something is done to resurrect it.

Its a real shame if it disappears, which it will in its current format.
