Yes please, Paul!
I'm hoping to jazz things up a bit this year, to attract the crowd a bit more. Last year we had a pretty good spot, right by the door on the way out to the dunnies. But most of the punters seemed more concerned with getting their bladders eased, & hardly gave us a passing glance.
Apart from Paul's saws, I'm going to have my new small bench as part of the booth furniture, and am thinking of bringing a few things long to run some demos on some little things like wood-threading, or something like that. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please speak up. You could bring a 'show & tell' item that you have on display during your shift, or something similar....
I'll start a roster to include those who've already put their hand up. Some of you were specific with a time slot, others less so, so I'll put you in where there's a gap,m & if that doesn't suit, let me know asap..
First draft should be up tonight or tomorrow (Monday) morning.
cheers,IW

Draft Roster #1
OK, here's draft #1: TWWWS roster 2016.pdf
Don't panic if your time isn't right or doesn't suit, just let me know & I'll fix it. I'll update every day or two depending on how many responses we get.
So come on all youse Brisbane Forumfolk, get with the fun. No experience necessary, we'll induct & train you (takes about 2 minutes & is guaranteed painless ). You can see the empty spots on the roster where you are wanted - secure a place now!
Cheers,IW

I have done the last two shows and I encourage people to volunteer. It is easy "work", just talking to people who don't know about the forums and also quite a few forums members who come up for a chat. One of the best things about it is that you have somewhere friendly to sit down when you are footsore from walking around the show, and somewhere safe to stash goodies instead of lugging them around, and around!
It is also great to have things that you have worked on to show people and start the conversation going. Last year DaveTTC had some very interesting turnings he had done and they attracted a lot of attention. IanW's bench was likewise greatly admired the previous year along with his jig for making wooden screws for vises. Make it a "show and tell".

Yep, that's the stuff. The more interest we can create, the more likely we are to attract passers-by & get them engaged. If you can angle your "show & tell" to something for which the inspiration either came from something you saw on the Forum, or you were helped by answers to a question on the Forum, so much the better......
No further volunteers since the first wave. C'mon folks, step up & have a go! It's a bit of fun, as well as giving something back to the Forum.
I'm assuming those who have volunteered have checked the roster & are ok with where I've put you? Haven't had any complaints or corrections so far....
Cheers,IW

OK Suthop & RGAL, I've put you down for Friday afternoon.
Starting to look like a roster, but still plenty of spaces, especially Saturday afternoon. You can also nominate for any slot that only has one name in it, so that there are a couple of people scheduled for each time slot. That way, one can take a loo break or grab a coffee, etc...
Here's a little inducement - I'll be donating a couple of draw prizes again - all volunteers who sign up (& turn up for their shift!) go in the draw. I'll have more to say about that in a day or two.
Updated roster attached....... TWWWS roster 2016 v2.pdf

Ian,
I can do Sunday morning if there are no takers. I'll find something to do between shifts if need be. Happy with the roster as it stands for me.

Oh no! Last time an inducement was offered, I was trampled in the rush. I still have the marks to show (but only if you want . It's not compulsory!)
Such is the "pull" of a genuine Wilkie hand-made tool.
The fact is that if you like talking about tools and woodworking and all associated paraphernalia you will be a natural ambassador for the Woodwork Forum stand. Don't be shy and don't even be worried that you may not have fifty years woodworking experience and are not an honorary member of an ancient guild, you will fit in perfectly.
You may have noticed that the Forum caters for everybody and that is probably the best image we could project.
So roll up, roll up and if you have something for "show and tell" run it past Ian. Thank you to all those of you who have already put your hand up for a stint on the stand.

Hi Jason, thankyou for that. You'll be welcome if it's convenient for you to be there early, but let's see who else puts their hand up. As Paul says, it's good to have as many members as we can muster, each brings his/her own perspective & enthusiasm to the table. I'm going to be there for the whole time, so there won't be any times with nobody at all to man the booth.
Saturday afternoon is the glaringly empty spot. Looks like a long, lonely shift for me! However, I'm not despairing yet, I've noticed in past years that there are always a few more volunteers in the last week, as people get their weekends sorted & obtain the necessary permits from significant others, etc....
I'll PM my mobile number to all volunteers by the middle of the week. For those who haven't done this before, the system is to call me when you are outside the venue & someone comes out with a badge to let you in.
Cheers,IW

Put me down for the 1pm plus shift on Saturday. If I blow all my money early i might be able to do a double.
