    Default Canberra Woodworking Show

Are there any Forum deals on entry to the Canberra Show?

I know there is a discount on their website with a Promo Code, but the Forum deal is usually slightly better.

    Regards

I will be in Canberra on the TWWW Show weekend and for the following week. I have commitments there for Remembrance Day

Just wondering if any Canberra members wanted to meet up for a chat either at the show or a shed visit.

Shoot me a PM if you are interested.

    Cheers

    Doug

    Tomorrow is the day!!

It could sneak past without being noticed. It's not even on EPIC'S event list.

I was the pilot today to transport 3 other Sydneysiders to the Canberra WWWS. I know there has been a lot of grumbling about the state of this event and concern for its future, so we 4 decided to go along to add to the "weight of numbers" and to try to ensure its future.
We could only go today and, as we all know, Sunday tends to be the quietest day. There were many of the 'usual list of suspects' presenting and selling their wares and most said he same thing.....

"there aren't many people here but there's a higher percentage of them buying"

I don't know IF there has been a lack of advertising (although we 4 obviously knew about it?) nor IF the cost to businesses was too high but, in spite of those 2 possibilities, here are my impressions
    • Yes, it is small
    • yes, there were enough suppliers there to make the visit worthwhile
    • yes, the standard of woodwork on display was VERY high
    • parking, compared to say Sydney, was brilliant
    • the suppliers had time to talk
    • AS WITH ALL SUCH EVENTS the quality of the coffee was abysmal
    • YES, I would go again

I still can't understand however why the organisers of all of these events don't use our beloved forum to get the word out? We present a huge and free channel to market that any advertiser worth their salt must dream about!
Anyway, Pac man, shanesmith80, Groeneaj, Doug3030 and I got to meet, swap outrageous yarns and spread the community of woodworkers.
    All up, a good day.

I recall they did last year or the year before that. They won't make that mistake again anytime soon. They were presented with a barrage of complaints before the show had even started.

And it was an honour and a privelige to meet up with these four Sydneysiders while I am visiting Canberra ffrom Melbourne this week. Canberrans however are harder to flush out of their sheds it would seem. I still may get a chance to meet up with a couple of Canberrans.

I doubt that I would make the seven-hour trip from Melbourne to Canberra if it was just for the TWWW Show, but sinch I was here anyway it was well worth a visit.

Yes it was small, even a bit smaller than the ever-reducing Melbourne Show. But as small as it was, it had a nice feeling about it. The atmosphere was reminiscent of the recent Ballarat Club Show.

Timber prices were far better than the overpriced, poor quality selection we were offered in Melbourne this year, although one Canberra exhibitor had excellent quality timber but in my opinion, wanted way too much for it.

Terry from HNT Gordon had a good stand set up, Carbatec were well represented, as was Jim Davey.

I did not try the coffee but the battered flathead fillets and chips were nice for lunch and a bargain at $10.

Parking was right at the door and free. Best of any TWWW show I have ever been to.

If I ever happen to be in Canberra when it is on again I would come back.

    Cheers

    Doug
