Fletty thanks for carting the over sized lump of Oak which Pat had been told 6" cube would do nicely for Sue Mortar & Pestle.
Pat thanks heaps for the Oak and offer of a piece.
So Christos you've done it again a top job by all accounts as always.

A big + 1 for above.
I had a great two days chatting with familiar members and some new faces and am already looking forward to next year.
And as always is great to see Stan entertaining the crowd and getting future woodworkers involved, he is a true entertainer. Although I was a bit sad to see where he was positioned, I really believe this man deserves centre stage.
My haul:
- another beautiful piece of ARC from Boutique Timbers (hopefully wont break this one steam bending)
- a stack of screws from Screw-it-screws.
- 2 exquisite squares from Colen Clenton, 6" and 2"
- and a Bahco beanie form Stan for being a Sand Bag (at least I was useful for something).
cheers

Sometimes it is hard to hold back the tears when another Sydney Working With Wood Show comes to an end.
We all have our reasons for attending or not being able to attend. I can only speak on my behalf and why I attend and volunteer for this aspect of the show. It is a way of giving back something to the community of wood workers(also including metal, leather, plastic and now quilters, take a look here.)
I wish to thank the organizers of the show for giving us a space, for Ubeaut for their contribution of the forum, for Timbercon for transporting the posters and flyers to Sydney and for the volunteers that help look after the forum stall. I have said it before without you I would be hanging out flyers on my own. I can go without food for 6 hours but a toilet break, now that's tough.
I truly hope that everyone that volunteered to help enjoyed their time at the forum stand and at the show.
Thank you

This is a completely personal response to the Sydney WWW Show of 2015. I hope I remember to review this thread before the 2016 shows.
Bouquets, not ranked
· All the timber sellers, for their increased range and what I thought were very reasonable prices, by and large. You needed to be early for the best choice, though. Even by Friday at noon, there had been a lot of sales.
· The lovely smell of fresh sawdust, everywhere and the momentary quiet lull when a nearby machine ceased. The “good noise” was a legend, Big Stan. I endorse the views of others who say he should be given a better location.
· Fabulous work on display, particularly the finalists in IATE, the Sydney Woodturners Guild and Central Coast Woodturners. I was wrapped by some of the inlay work.
· Carbatec for demos of Saw Stop. Device continues to amaze me and so much more awesome seen “in the flesh” than on You Tube.
· The traditional regulars whose presence mean a lot to me, Henry Eckert, HNT Gordon, Chris Vesper, TTG, Woodworkers Association, Men’s Sheds, Gifkins Dovetail and Arbortech.
· Christos for all his efforts for the Forum and the many people like him who set up and manned the stalls like the Forum, the Woodworkers Association, TTG and the Men’s Sheds. Also to Neill to whom we owe the Forum and more, [but see MIA below] and to Impressive Exhibitions for the Stand.
· Peter Wood (pawood, who I did not meet) for his gift to Crowie. To say Crowie was lost for words would be inaccurate; he was absolutely chuffed and told everyone.
· Some great demonstrations, especially the fellow from Tormek who seemed to divide his time giving displays for Carbatec and VEK.
· Australian Woodsmith, showing its products off well and better than Australian Wood Review or Australian Woodworker.
· VEK for monopolising power tools and cordless tools and using reps from the companies who were interested in endorsing their companies’ products.
· The Forumites I was fortunate enough to meet. Now I know some names to go with the monikers.
Missing In Action or Missed, Please Come Back
· Where were PWS? I had my shopping list ready. No good now, I spent it elsewhere but I really wanted to see their goods.
· UBeaut can be bought elsewhere, but no-one can do the demonstrations and do the “meet and greet” like Neil. I am sure the Forumites will promise to buy enough from you to make it worth your while.
Brickbats
· Problems with EFTPOS.
· Staff on some stalls that believe the Show is for them to catch up with mates or socialise with whoever is on the stall with them instead of trying to attend to customers. Worst offenders and lost sales opportunities were noted for Carbatec, Major Woodworking Equipment and Carb-i-tool.
· Diminishing exhibitor numbers and area, notwithstanding welcome return of Timbecon and greater presence of Trend Timber and Japanese Tools.
· Some of the absolutely stunning work on display. How dare they be so good. Should I try, even or is it all a waste of my time (do not worry, I think the same when I see Rodin’s sculpture or Picasso paintings; I will plug away).
· Overall lack of creativity in the stands and the presentations, but maybe that is irrelevant for this market.
· The people who go to extraordinary lengths to avoid eye contact when you are handing out brochures…..especially when it is to tell them about something that is free.
· List of exhibitors only published on Thursday.
Will I be back? Almost certainly.CJ

After a few years away (this was my first time at the Homebush site), it was great to be back at the show.
I loved looking at all the stands, especially the ones who haven't always been supportive.
The upshot was that I now know that I don't need any new tools - someday I will buy a better bandsaw and get helical heads for my jointer/planer. But looking at the TTTG stall I knew I have enough hand tools.
I do need a couple of things but they were too minor for anyone to have at the show (4" dust collector end fittings, and pearl hide glue, for example - it's never there if UBeaut isn't).
Now I have reached that stage, the important stands are the timber vendors. I didn't have my together, so I hadn't worked out what I need to build my next project. So I didn't buy anything - but I will be in touch with Greg Ward again shortly.
Next year can't come soon enough!Cheers

Thanks Pat for the Oak Fletty dropped it off today looking like the Huncback of the Wood Workshow. What had me worried were the signs of blood on the wood and bag as though he'd been swinging it at some people, NOT at the woodshow trying to beat a good deal out of vendors

Shows over man, shows over!
Another great three days down in Sydney hanging with some cool dudes and harassing passerby to join the forums (hi new peeps!)
Think I need to try making a one string guitar after watching Stan knock one up. Wonder how a no-musical-talent person like myself can make them sound?

Rain it didn't
Today is very wet in Sydney, but it was warm and dry for the show. As most timber sellers and the Lucas mill were outdoors during the show..... we were pleased it held off for the weekend and for that we say 'phew'.
I know rain shows the timber colours, but unlike other more professional timber resellers, we use chalk to post prices and we are easily confused these days if they disappear in the wet weather......... we are easily confused actually with our pricing whether it rains or not......
And to those many forum members and other customers who called to say Hi and watch the two old crocks hobble around tripping over boards and slabs and dragging boards and slabs around we say............ Thanks.
It was a great show. Total attendance around 15,000, with 7000+ on Friday.
Timber sales were great with ARC selling well this year, blackbean a surprise success, camphor as usual popular, (although that is more easily collected from Cremorne), hairy oak disappeared Friday as did Mackay cedar shorts, mahogany, all the snakewood, most of the huon and silver ash. Milky pine blocks didn't sell, nor did the Hornbeam (whatever that is).
Pat got his black walnut blocks and a few other orders were happily collected and Nick didn't complain that I had forgotten his redgum penblank.
Again, thanks to all who came to say Hi.
Anyone wanting timber before next year's show can get in touch OR attend the timber auction at Rolland Plains on 20 September 2015......
Warm Regards, back to the farm tomorrow.
Greg

A great big belated thank you to Christos for organising the Forum Stand. A terrific effort appreciated by all. Thanks also to all who helped out on the stand.
WELL DONE ONE AND ALL!
Cheers - Neil
