Fair enough Neill. It certainly wasn't a very impressive display of organisation by management last year. Maybe some day the organisers will realise it's not a really smart idea to keep gouging the exhibitors. No exhibitors, no show!

OK, I'll volunteer to get there early & collect the passes (& do the stand, if it needs doing), unless someone comes out of hiding between now & next week & volunteers to do the setup on Thursday arvo.......

Maybe this will help to winkle a few more helpers out, & if not, well, the pool of potential winners is smaller. I'll donate a couple of things for a draw at the end of the show. All volunteers (who show up & serve their shift!) go in the draw.......

And a small (100mm) recalibratible square: small square.jpg

Hi chaps, I'll update the roster soon, it seems we have our first Sunday volunteer, well done. I like the prizes Ian, if only I can win one on my last show in Brisbane.

To add to Ian's most generous prizes and as a further incentive I have included in the box for the show a new Forum Cap and a U-Beaut Polishes Apron to also add to the draw.

    Sorry no pics.

    Cheers - Neil

Not having a go at Ian, just trying to clear up a misconception or two.

This isn't really the right place for this but here goes anyway:
There has been no gouging of the exhibitors by the management, quite the contrary, there hasn't been an appreciable rise in prices by them for a number of years. The prices (I mentioned earlier) charged for Tea and coffee etc have nothing to do with the show organisers and are completely beyond their control that is all controlled by the venue and has nothing to do with the organisers of the show.

On the other hand the forum stand is supplied entirely at organisers expense.

The organisers have put their hearts, their souls and their lives into these shows and should be heartily congratulated for being strong enough to stick by the shows and the exhibitors during some extraordinarily hard times.

Please note the we (u-Beaut Polishes) and I'm sure others, can't attend all the shows, not because we are being gouged by the organisers, but because of other continuously rising expenses like accommodation, meals, freight, travel, fuel, wages, time away from our businesses, etc, etc, etc.

If anyone is letting the shows down it's those who continually find fault or knock the shows and to a certain extent, visitors or lack there of.
No visitors = no sales = loss of exhibitors = no shows. It's that simple.

    Cheers - Neil

    Dave,
I thought I saw a note in a post somewhere that you'd moved to central Victoria and now you've volunteering for the Brisbane Woodwork Show again this year.....

Well done sir, an outstanding effort....

I hope that inspires the S.E.Queensland forum members to also support the Forum Stand......

PLUS I hope one of them offers you a hot shower, a hot meal & warm bed after coming all that way....

    Cheers, crowie

Ok guys, here it is. It's still a long way to go but Brisbane was not built in a day. Sunday is still looking grim with less than a week to go.

This is the first time I have been able to access the Forums for over a week with the server issues.

Will there be a telephone number to call on arrival at the show as in the past? I have your mobile number Superbunny from last year (not sure if that is yours or a general number), but I am guessing you won't be there on Friday. I can see a potential issue for show access and contact if the server issues raise their ugly heads again (hopefully that is all sorted now).

In the past the number has been advised through a PM.

Default May the God of woodworking help us (please interpret my post with some sense of fun)

What a dismal showing from Queensland! (Don't kill me please I am really a Queenslander, born and bred - though I have experienced other States of being/existing in the Great Southland)

The show is GREAT fun and working on the stand is a really good way to meet other woodworkers and talk to people about woodwork. ARE you Queensland gents and ladies serious about WOOD and woodworking? Do you live it and dream it? EXCELLENT, volunteer for the stand, come down to the show, FREE ENTRY and meet other odd people like yourselves (me) to talk to, what more can you want?

Seriously, I volunteered for the first time last year. I was nervous about it, but did not need to be. It was really good to meet other forum members and there were lots of woodworkers who wanted to know more of the forums. My couple of hours on the stand just flew. I even got to meet some woodworking experts like IanW and DaveTTC, Croc, Bushmiller and even more! (Apologies to the rest, names not my speciality - bad thing for a taxonomist!) But, I enjoyed it so much that I am back this year.

    Now, if it is any inducement to others to volunteer I will say that, while my skills as a woodworker are "in training" (and I hope will continue to be so for the rest of my life) I am actually qualified as a botanist (PhD) and I am happy to share what knowledge I have of plants and wood with fellow forum stand attendees who are there when I am there! {{ but please do remember there are more than 22,000 plant species, I do not know them all, and NO garden plant Ids!!}}

Superbunny, I will be wandering around the show (lost as usual) most of Saturday so, if needed just roster me on for some more slots. I had not planned to be in on the Sunday but if absolutely necessary my wonderful wife will part from me (i.e. put me down for a slot or two if you really need to). 35 years of happy marriage allows for some emergencies such as these.

As I said, a sense of humour will help with the reading. Quirky, odd = woodworker?
