Well in two weeks time it's all over for another 12 months.

All those who attend the show will have stashed their new acquisitions in the shed, be they tools or timber. Some will be showing their purchases to their significant others with pride while others will be sneaking them in for fear of reprisals from their significant other, such as the right to spend a similar amount of wool, fabric or whatever their passion is.

I feel sorry for those in that position, partly because I was in that position before myself, but I chose my partner more wisely this time around.

But the ones that I REALLY feel sorry for are - THE ONES WHO MISS OUT ON THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY. Think about it. Free entry is nice, but I would volunteer for the stand even if I had to pay to get in for the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones on the forum and to have our own private lounge to withdraw to and sit and relax for a while.

And how would you feel if you see the bargain of a lifetime on one of the stands and you could not buy it because you are $10 short because you had to pay to get in rather than spend an hour giving a bit back to the forum?

16 spots left to fill. Lets not leave it to the last minute. No experience necessary, full training provided. Easiest and most rewarding job in the world.

A big thank-you to Neil/Ubeaut for setting up the opportunity for us, Simplicity and Pagie for putting up their hands for the big jobs of coordinators. Lets help them out be filling the roster so they do not have to spend the whole day on the stand themselves. Pagie gets a special mention for coordinating Sunday as well as doing two hours on the stand on Friday when Simplicity is coordinator.

And thanks to all the regular volunteers so far, Tiger, David Mitchell, Justonething, Egress, Chesand, CAG, Geof Ford, Old Greybeard and Bohdan.

    Cheers

    Doug

Damn, I was hoping you would come and do the last shift on Friday and the first shift on Sunday. They are the only timeslots with nobody in them yet and are both pretty critical. I know you would help out if you could, Dave but I hope someone can put their hands up for these timeslots soon.

    Any takers?

If not for those times then for any other vacancies?

    Cheers

Well the Sydney show has not been moved so that its dates coincide with another well-established local woodworking event. This is what has happened in Melbourne. Many of our regular Forum Stand volunteers have been committed to the Phillip Island Turn-around, which has been held on that weekend for years. They cannot be in two places at once and if I was a serious turner I know which way I would be going too.

From that perspective it is not really a fair comparison. However that is the reality of the situation we face and that is why we need to try so hard to get new faces to volunteer to help us make it work. So anyone not going to the Turnaround who could lend us a hand would be most welcome.

    Cheers

As Doug said the shift of dates removed all the serious wood turners and consequently wood turning supplies shops. All that is left is only for woodworkers and now they have sacked the best draw card of the show, Big Stan.

The show has become a small popup shopping centre with limited shops, many vacant windows and no entertainment, keeping banking hours. No wonder Doug has problems.

    Peter.

Ps, the organizers at this late stage have not even put up a list of the exhibitors, they are not even trying themselves to get interest in the show.

Maybe we should all not go. If they do not care about the show why should we?

Hey, when I mentioned the clash with the Turnaround, I was just putting it out there why we needed fresh faces - to replace the regulars who aren't available this year.

I didn't want the whole thing going south like this with people knocking the show. How about we concentrate on getting volunteers here in this thread. Start another thread for show bashing if you feel you must, if there isn't one already

    Cheers
