7 pies & chips , no wonder you couldn't spend 3 days walking around the show

The show definitely seems to be getting smaller each year. I only bought a couple of mortice chisels, a small square & some sanding disks. Will probably go again next year, like Fletty, mainly to meet up with other forum members at the stand.

Sunday was my first TWWW show. Great array of tools and timber. Also chatted to some knowledgeable folks and bought some new (and old) tools.
Next year I'll manage to park closer and buy timber

Just on the parking this year I parked right out front on the Friday and discovered the brick pit car park on Saturday behind the Showground which was 200m from the parcel pickup. Same princely sum as the multi deck though.

What a (very long) and enjoyable weekend!
Things started at 7.40am on Thursday after I volunteered to help Big Stan from Billinudgel Woodworks set up his display, ably helped by Clearout, Sheetmetal, & non Forum members Christine, Matt and Jim. Matt travelled down from Billinudgel with Stan just to help out, and what a great asset he was.
Assembly of the stand went well, surprising how quick it all came together. Stan had 2 crates of timber and blanks, plus all the display racks, stands and tables, musical instruments, axes, and shavings for the floor for his corral all in his ute or 4 wheel trailer. It was very well packed, and quite amazing how so much stuff was packed in there. There were 2 more crates and a triple width pallet containing the rails etc. for the corral delivered during the morning.
The next three days were most enjoyable, spending time on the Forum stand officially on Friday and Sunday, plus visiting several times on Saturday, helping on the Billinudgel Woodworks stand, and generally having a good look around and chatting with Forumites and wood club friends.
Retail therapy was performed at Carbi-tool,(toy wheel cutter and 4 router bits) Trend, (EEE U-Beaut polish and a bit of Purple Heart) Brassware for Creative Finishes, (round rasps and sanding sleeves for an oscillating sander) the phone accessory bloke, (Mobile phone holder for my daughter) and the old tools stand (1" button die holder), plus some turning blanks from Stan's stand.

On all three show days, I arrived before 10 and didn't leave until after 4 on Friday and Saturday, with Sunday evening finishing up at 6.45 after packing up Stan's stand. Many thanks to Christos who helped out with the dismantling of the stand, and packing the crates etc. Fortunately, there was a lot less to pack up after some good sales throughout the weekend.

I reckon Friday up to about 1.00pm was very crowded apart from the school kids, with the rest of the show fairly steady, with no problems walking around in the generous sized walkways.

Anyway, that was Sydney, I will probably go to the Canberra show this year, never know who you might bump in to.

I was at the show on Sunday and this time was spent chatting with people. I did a stint at the Sydney Wood Turners Guild, had a short lunch break and walked over to the forum stand to help fill the few hours that were left. Really a very easy time slot and as we were opposite Theo we were able to catch his demonstrations.

I picked up some Abarnet abrasive from the guys at the Mirka stand. This is something that I was thinking about for a while and as they were at the show I thought that I would give it a try. The main idea is to use it for finishing a piece on the lathe. The other thing that I purchased was glue. Then resubscribed to the Australian Wood Review.

Fletty nothing wrong with RU results that I can see.

Poor H she'll suffer the repo of all those pies n chips n beer.
Thanks for picking up the burl for Sue (not me) I just have to do the work. It'll make a nice corner lounge table I hope when done.

Thanks again all for the comments it does keep many of us in the picture. I doubt I'll ever get back to SWWS but might get to BWWS definite to Melany

I am glad a everyone had as much fun at the show as I did.

Great photos DaveTTC. Stan is a fantastic addition to the wood shows. He is always doing something to entertain the crowd and you can hear him thoughout the hall. I noticed that his cajon has had a hard life. Maybe I can organise an upgrade.

Stan and the other characters are probably the main reason I go to these shows. Even though I use the Internet to find information and buy things I think I need and find good deals, there is nothing like talking to someone face to face and having a play with the tools, machines and timber. Especially if you have a forum buddy or two to offer advice and inspiration at the same time. Some of them are as helpful in person as they are on the Forum.
Usually I buy what I came for and occasionally buy things I will never use. Who else has one of those Clip-on vises? This year I bought the Sanding Glove that I will probably only use once but it was an irresistible purchase.
Sometimes you find things like the Abranet sandpaper that I had heard about but never seen here. Now I have several boxes.
Yes, Fletty, I will give it a test on this big Red Gum slab and report back.

I am sure these shows are a challenge for the exhibitors but I hope they keep coming back.
Looking forward to the next Wood Show.

I went with my 2yr old son on Saturday. As a 2 year old with a toy version of almost every hand and power tool I own, he absolutely loved it!

I didn't buy much. One Bessey quick-release clamp, a magnetic light, and some wax. I was *that* close to buying a Shelix cutterhead for my jointer. I don't know why I ummed and ahhed about it, because I now wish I bought it. Oh well, if I haven't bought one by the time Canberra rolls around, there will be a road trip for myself and the boy.

It was my first time at the show, and while I didn't really know what to expect, I wasn't expecting it to be as busy as it was. It was Friday morning there, so perhaps that was mostly students. Met a few people on the forum stand during my brief visit, and caught up with a former work colleague.

I managed to get a few tools I was going to buy "one day" anyway, so it was nice to not paying shipping on them. Couldn't buy much wood as I caught the train, although I did get a small solid block of WA sheoak that may one day turn into a plane body. Would come back again, but come with an actual concrete project in mind when browsing the wood for sale.

You planned that well ACT show is Fathers day time and you'll be hinting for ages its just what you are after using "Its going to make my noise levels when using it so much better dear I'll hear the kids calling me"

    Hi,
You are two years late, from last year they moved us to November, because Melbourne show was moved and they would have been too close if we stayed on Father's day.
    Regards

I had an enjoyable 3 days at the show. Was great to meet some new faces from the forum and catch up with old ones. I probably go to the show now more for the social aspect. In saying that I did come away with a few little odds and ends. Ended up with 3 of those little tape measures that auto extend, my daughter claimed one. Got a couple of the ruler stop thingy's from the Japanese tools stand. And the only other free thing there 'besides the forum', the Iwirn driver bits been given away at the Australian Woodworker stand.
And In the end I couldn't leave without relieving Boutique Timbers of some of their Blackwood.
So a big thanks to all who helped out on the stand over the weekend, and especially to Neil for allowing us this great place to meet up. Hopefully we managed to convince a few more members (although probably not the 'gentleman' we talked to Friday morning).
    Cheers

First:A great big thank you to Shane for all the work and time he put in to getting the stand together and running smoothly (I presume) for the weekend, same thank you goes out to fletty for all his time and effort as well.

Second: To all those who helped out on the stand, thank you and well done one and all.
Without you all pitching in to help out there wouldn't be a Forum Stand at any of the shows.

These stands have been a meeting place for members for around 6 or so years now. There have been lots of friends made, lots of helpful and interesting discussions, lots of BS thrown around and in general a great sense of comradeship due to the like mindedness of those who get together both on the stands and on here.

Last but by no means least:
A massive thank you to the organizers of the Timber and Working With Wood Shows Impressive Exhibitions who for the last 6 or so years have generously donated the floor-space, walls, power, etc for these stands. Paid for out of their own pockets. To Liz, Rick, Stephan and the rest of the crew thank you. Not only for the stands but for the shows and keeping them up and running through some really difficult times.

    Cheers - Neil

PS Don't be thanking that Neil character. He's just a lazy bugger who does nothing and expects everything.

Thanks to work and injury I didn't do my 3 day holiday in Sydney this year. Managed to get down on Friday for a couple hours though which nearly bloody killed me but stubbornness prevailed!

Did pick up my long awaited 3rd square off Chris Vesper. So now I have a matching set of brass master squares in 4 7 10 inches. Though I did forget to go buy some nice timber to make a case for them. Who am I kidding, they can stay in the cardboard for another year.

The Jet rep at Trend was really quite nice to talk to but I will have to dig a new trench for power before I upgrade to a combo machine. Maybe an excursion down to see the Hammer mob too...

Were the ornamental turners there this year? I had a quick look but didn't see them. Brought mum down to see what the fuss is about, bad idea. She wants some segmented turnings now! Oops!

Good to see the forumites I did actually see, you know who you are even if I don't Catch ya all next year I guess!

    !
They haven't been for about 3 years MrPete various reasons. However they do appear at Penrith Show in August, Trend & H&F open days, Oberon Wood & Steam Fest in Feb, and next year will be at Luddenham Show and various shows at the show ground throughout the year. Luddenham Show ground is the new digs and JChappo may correct me but they now meet on a Wednesday and Saturday.

In support of the recent floods whih destroyed Picton show ground they are demonstrating at a show in October which may be held at Luddenham I believe.
