Sydney Wood Show is next month but is the forum having a stand??

Worst lunch ever frozen pizza and soggy chips. Bloody kids everywhere and the over 60s. When will they ever realise they do not belong? Triton is doing great. Best invention ever right?

Got some Mackay Cedar from my good friend Greg. Bought 1L of Tung oil for $45 it has to be the most expensive oil in the world.

I will go next year as long as the show needs me.

Went today. Bought a Lie-Nielsen router plane, some small bits of timber, and some small odds and ends from Tool King.

Came close to buying either the Laguna Fusion tablesaw from Trend or the Harvey from Major Woodworking. I like the Fusion, but 2hp seems a bit low, I have 3hp on my Triton at the moment. I've got more time to think about it though, if their floor stock was a couple of hundred less I would have gone home to get the trailer.

Geez, the place was small. Still good stuff from the people there though, but I missed Mcjings and Timbecon - they usually get my cash.

If you wanted timber, you were in luck. Good pieces from everyone who was there. The small pieces of Dead Finish from All Class Timber were beauties.

This show won't be around for much longer (also said by a few vendors there, not the newbies either) but like others have said, I'll still go. But at $32 for parking and admission.......!

If it's tung oil and nothing else, the raw material is quite cheap - a few dollars a kilo if you buy it in large quantities. It's the packaging you pay for. If there were enough interested, I'm pretty sure we could source 200 litre for less than $10/litre (that's allowing the vendor a decent margin for packing off). If there's interest (and it doesn't contravene any forum rules) please PM me and if I can get enough people interested I'm pretty sure I can source some (my former employer buys it by the tanker load).

Definatly smaller than last year but worth going. Disappointed that McJings &Timberbits weren't there. I always seemed to find something that I never knew I "needed" there Once again the High School display did not disappoint. I always learn something and had some interesting chats with people I've never met before. THe TTTG was down on last year too IMOH, or maybe all the good stuff went on the Friday. $16.00 entry and $25.00 parking is worth it for someone traveling from the Central Coast. Nothing like that up here. I'll keep going.

I decided not to go in today. Friday was a good day however as I battled "the school kids and over 60s" to pick up a few things on my bucket list and to pick up the sapele/ African mahogany that the Ward boys brought down for me. Funny thing though, I brought 2 mates in with me, one a woodworker and the other NOT. The NOT A Woodworker (NAW) kept looking askance at my bleached grey planks of sapele wondering if I had, in fact, finally lost my marbles and that surely when we unloaded it, it would go straight into the firewood pile?
Well, isn't he now surprised? I dressed one of my 4 precious, if slightly tatty, boards yesterday but took the time today to dress the lot...

NAW is impressed and my woodworking mate is now staking a claim for some of it for a sapele table he now suddenly has to make
I have also been thinking about my experience and how we can potentially help these shows to survive. There are the bleeding obvious suggestions such as ADVERTISE? There were no signs that I saw within the Olympic precinct nor the surrounding roads to let passing people know that it was even on! ( The same thing happened at Canberra last year!)
However, on a more subtle level, my experience at this show might help suppliers to reduce their costs of attending and hence ensure their attendance?
In the notes section of my mobile phone, I list things that I would possibly buy if I saw them on sale and/or at the Show. With a reduced Carbatec stand, NO Timbecon and NO McJing, my list was largely still unsatisfied when I got home on Friday night. SO, I went on line, noted that (at least) Carbatec had an EOFY sale on (which included free postage) and ordered everything left on my wish list?
This leads me to suggest the following. What if a supplier was to have a stand at the show and at that stand they had a sample of many things but no stock. We could then go to the stand, try the sample and, if we want to proceed, place our order on a terminal at the stand for delivery at a sale price to our homes just a few days later? I would certainly go for that?

Thats a good point. When I was at the Carbatec Stand, I noticed they had multiples of many items obviously for sale. I enquired about the RTJ400 dovetail jig that I wanted to have a look at. I was told "we can't have everything on the stand" followed by " I wish we had brought one down, you are the 4th person to enquire about one." and that was before 12 noon Friday!
So your idea of ordering at the show would be a viable idea with maybe the incentive of free shipping. This would allow them to gave a better range on show.
i would have liked a larger area as I found it crowded with narrow aisles.

Assuming they paid entry then they belonged there just as much as you. I really don't understand this kind of thinking.

With all saleable goods being bar coded these days, you could imagine all sorts of order and sales 'trickery' such as ordering via a barcode reader, just like the Bunnings self-checkout? I think it's got legs.

I feel like I remember something similar from one of the fine woodworking shops in Canada (Lee Valley maybe?). The floor is full of unboxed items for handling and then you scan the item and pick up at the till. Sounded awesome to me.
