I don't know where is convenient for you but the locals include Anagote near Marrickville, Matthews (Mathews?) near St Marys, Trend near Windsor and, my favourite, Boutique Timbers who you would have seen at the Show. Boutique are based on the North Coast of NSW but, if you ask nicely, they will bring timber down to Sydney during their fortnightly sabbaticals?
Thanks for the welcome and suggestions, I'm from north Sydney area. Have had anagote on my list for a while just hadn't managed to get there but might have to have a look at trend as well now !

I think you need to make contact with Boutique Timber. Their Sydney 'depot' is at Neutral Bay!

Can't get any closer than that ! I go from having no choice (the big green box isn't a choice it's desperation... ) to having to choose from suppliers ! Loving it

First thing is to get some timber for the legs of this small small coffee table I picked up on Sunday, i can see a few blunt plane blades from flattening this....

Then a shopping trip to one of the new found suppliers!

I'm sure if you asked them nicely they would bring some down specially for you, but I suspect they would charge you an embarrassment fee for having to be seen with that stuff on their truck [emoji6]

I wonder if Mal's new hip was sustainably sourced tropical hardwood?

Hi Greg here, heading back to the farm tomorrow, back in around 2 weeks probably with some more camphor.......
But if you want anything in particular, send me a pm or email Boutique Timbers: [email protected].
It works like this: I bring the timber down on the roofracks and leave it in an open carport at Cremorne. You come and collect at any time day or night and leave payment in the letterbox if i am not around. You can check the website for the types of timber Mal carries.
    Regards
    Greg

I Greg. Do you drop off at other areas? I live North of Gosford, but Newcastle or Hornsby areas are doable.

    Hi,
Normally drop across from the BMW dealership off the Highway at Gosford, or Maccas at Heatherbrea, also Wyong could be a possibility I guess, so get in contact if you want something. Big stuff Mal drops, I can do boards etc up to 3 metres but not big slabs.

My thoughts on the WWW Show. I got the train down to my sister's at Menai. Being a real hayseed now the changing of trains, struggling with suit cases with the peak hour crowds, then making sure I was on the right train and got off from at the right place..... Friday morning arrived and overnight swatting of map reading for the hour long bus trip....then get out at Lidcome (never been to Lidcome in my life) get on the train to the Show ground....

One comment on the behavior of the school kids on the bus....they were SO polite and most of them said hello to the driver or when getting off said thanks I was impressed

I got off the train and just followed the other passengers to get up onto the forecourt. I could see NO sign as to where to get to Shed 4. Eventually I found the the right way to walk down to Shed 4. It was before 10am so the gates doors were still locked but we were able to look at ALL the timber. I was impressed with the amount and the quality (and secretly wished that I had brought the Landcruiser with the 3 X 1.5 tandem trailer)

As usual when the doors were open it was a barn-rush to get in. First stop was the Australian Woodworker Magazine stand to get some folders to store the collection. They had a box with a sign that said "Free Samples".....a Lenox 6" sabre saw blade as well as a Record brand card with Phillips and Square drive bits...yes Free Samples. These would easily be more than $10 at Bunnos.

Then I moved on to the bloke selling Artu drill bits. He sold me a couple of replacement bits. Next was a second hand tool seller. I didn't realise just how much I like these stands to look for a "bargain". I found a what looked to be a brand new Eclipse coping saw.

Next was a timber seller from Parkes where I picked up some Banksia Pods from WA.
Carba-Tec had lots of people milling about so I came back later to have a good look

This seemed to be the method to see anything with any detail on any of the stands.

To sum up.....Yes it was good to see everything on show but my wood working journey is at a point where I don't really need to make any significant purchases so that may be why I was not "blown away" with some of the products.

Living so far away from specialty shops like Carba-Tec, H&F, Timbercon etc, although we do have a Gasweld in town, this show is the only one that brings it all together. Yes you could argue that the computer can get you more information that you would ever need, there is no substitute for seeing articles in the flesh and being able to really compare them together.

I bought 2 tickets to this years show on-line but one day was enough to satisfy my curiosity.

Would I go next year???? I am in 2 minds.

That experience I had with my first experience at Homebush around 2000 is a memory I treasure. I was like a kid in a chocolate shop. After that I went to Brissy Show in 2010 and 2013. The atmosphere was more like a country show which I liked but the latter show was smaller than the first one I went to. I haven't been going every year but I do like to go.

To catch up with fellow Forumites is always a good thing. It was a shame we didn't have the stand but really we can't complain because how many shows did the stand go to over the years? It was generous of Neil and his wife to let us have it and use it.
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

    Not very "Impressive", IMHO
What was even more disappointing was it was advertised in the AWR calendar as being on, it was even listed on IE's website, though when you clicked the link...nothing.
