Cracked 50lbs well and truly !
I got another 0.5lb that drags the original crew up 51.9 lbs graph attached.
and if we add on the 9kg bulk losses reported by snowyskiesau and chrisparks (these chaps not in original graphs) that gets approx another 20lbs - seen as a couple of huge steps in the latest graph.
So 71.7 lbs total thanks to Chris and Snowy.
Crack 75 before Christmas ?

I made a specific point of no diet change just adding exercise to my daily routine. I find it interesting that when someone goes on a diet they at the same time start exercising as the diet instructions say exercise should be included in the daily routine. If weight loss does occur when on the diet and with the accompanying exercise what caused the weight loss?

I have never tried it but I imagine that if the daily diet is less than ideal moving to one that is better will produce weight loss with no other measures taken. My argument with the doctors is my diet did not stand scrutiny as I did not have any of the usual problems in that regard and in general never have had but my weight became an issue and that can only be from lack of exercise or a medical issue. High sugar for instance will lead to weight gain or even bad sleep patterns can do the same.
I studied the weight loss/diet/exercise conundrum before I started and there is a school of thought that says that we have a genetic weight point and exercise, diet etc only delays that as neither is sustainable in the long term as a weight control measure. I tend to agree with that thinking but not one of the "experts" who work within the sphere of weight loss wants to acknowledge or even discuss it, in fact they all have what I think is tunnel vision.
I suspect when the washing up is finished and we abandon or find that further effort is required as our body gets used to the measures we are taking to lose weight that we regain all the losses back to about the same weight we were. This seems to be what happens universally and can't be avoided, maybe there are some exceptions but not many. Those that maintain their weight loss (or some of it) if they are honest have stepped away from their previous diet habits back to a sensible diet and not reach a number that was artificially high set by eating rubbish. What I am trying to say is on a sensible diet we reach our genetic weight but can go over that by artificially introducing eating habits and no exercise outside what the norm is. Does that make sense?
The body definitely become used to diet and an exercise level and to keep weight loss going those have to in general be varied or increased as needed.CHRIS

0.4kg
0.4kg = 0.88lb
My own experience over last 10 years is that exercise and diet definitely make a difference.
For 20 years I sat on 82kg with no attention to diet or exercise then in early 40s a more sedentary job and finished renovating house and weight shot up.
Gains usually correspond to relatively sedentary times and losses correspond to deliberate attempts to exercise 6 days out of 7 and physical effort working around the garden - have followed organised training programs, based on heart rate measurement, on a rowing machine - chasing some difficult, but achievable targets, and knocking them over one by one.
Last three years has been 102kg to 86kg back up to 94kg - sedentary due to injury - now back to 88kg
Diet mostly consists of avoiding snacks ie alcohol, chocolate, cakes and biscuits and eating dry cracker biscuits, carrot sticks and celery sticks and fruit instead
I will stop contributing to this thread at Christmas time - the original target date. I get the impression its been dragging on a bit.
We have achieved the 50lb target (well done us) and might reach 75lbs.
Regards
Bill

I have had to stop exercising for the last fortnight but I was surprised to find I had lost another kilo during that time with no conscious effort on my part.

Final post
Nothing further for me this last week.
Overall 4.5Kg so am reasonably happy with that although not quite as much as I had hoped.
Now to keep it off and try again in 2014.
Seasons greetings to my fellow weight loss members and all others.Tom
