    Default Macular degeneration.

I have known that I have this affliction for quite a few years now. It runs in the family with brothers,
uncles and aunties having the condition.

I have been able to keep the progress to a s;ow rate by eating lots of greens - especially kale, spinach
and broccoli. I also take Macu-Vision plus on the advice of my optometrist.

Today, however, I was brought to the sudden realization that tings are getting worse. I was looking at
a 150mm square tile pattern from a distance of about 5M and the pattern was quite distorted. I moved
a metre and a half or so closer and the grid was perfect. I know one of the teats for MD is to look at a
square grid on a piece of paper. If the grid is distorted then you probably have MD.

Not happy but there is little else to do.

I now have to finish a few projects I am working on before the problem becomes too great. I will eventually
have to give up driving. Bugger.

What a bastard of a thing to happen to you. Sorry to read this as my bosses mother had it and she had her computer hooked up the big screen tv, for the monitor. All the best with finishing your projects.

I'm following this through the better half of a friend.

The individual concerned has had eye problems for years starting out as a kid with lazy eye, then quite different degrees of short/long/astigmatism etc in that eye compared to the other.
Now things in a flat grid layout are like you're experiencing looking distorted and it has been confirmed as having MD.

Hw you get some sort of resolution Art.

My mum had it but treatment has moved on recently IIRC. Flouro lights used to bother her and having to give up her craft and reading was a huge blow to a person who thought every day should have 48 hours in it.

    Thumbs up

    Thanks for the concern everyone.

As an extra concern I have only one eye so that really has to be looked after.

I have had some interesting information sent by an old schoolmate concerning B12 and folate deficiency
with regard to MD. I have an appointment with my optometrist for 1st. Aug. and with an opthalmologist
the following day I don't really expect good news but at least I can discuss the ideas of thB12 and folate
deficiencies as well as any other possible means of slowing progress.

I saw another tiled wall today 50mm grid. As expected it was wonky but at a closer range. I also went
back to the first ""culprit"" but it was not quite as bad as the prvious encounter. Still this all confirms the
    problem.

    Please EVERYBODY check your macular!!

    As you say bugger.

It might be that the time to give up driving is much closer than you desire.

Yes, just so. This is why the appointment with the optometrist and the opthalmologist.

Not looking forward to not driving but Cést la vie .

Ana had talked about moving back to Bris. That is not something i wish to do ( and neither
does Ana for that matter). We have a comfortable set up where we are and the cost of
living here is less than it would be in Bris. For instance we have solar panels and have only
paid for electricity once in four years- just an $80 bill over a very hot summer. Rates are lower,
Ana has the pool and this is good for her arthritis exercises. I have my shed, although i can
see the time when that will be of little consideration.

    You have my sincere sympathies.
Lucentis and avastin have shown some benefit in stabilizing the progression of AMD but unfortunately nothing is curative. Some of my relatives suffer with this, it's not easy.
Innovations are those useful things that, by dint of chance, manage to survive the stupidity and destructive tendencies inherent in human nature.
