Default It's good news week - not!

Just another vent people. Another visit to another surgeon for a second opinion on my elbows. Thanks to PsA, elbows have gone - nothing left just bone on bone. Surfaces are too rough for an arthroscopy so only option is total elbow replacements or just pain management. Elbow replacements, unfortunately, are not like hip/shoulder replacements: not always successful , only last 5-8 years, 20% failure rate, the second is not as successful as the first and if bad enough I'll be left with just flailing arms. After replacement, no lifting anything heavier than a coffee cup, no jerking or repetitive movements allowed, basically you sit on the couch and watch TV for the rest of your life. I've decided to try to manage the pain with meds. The Surgeon today said you must have a very high pain tolerance to be able to cope with elbows in such shocking condition. Ain't life great. New hobby started today, planted two seeds, perhaps that may help with the pain, we'll see. The wrists, thumbs, fingers all have joint space left but for some reason are incredibly painful, more so than the elbows???

It's strange how a bone on bone joint is sometimes not as painful as our other sound but painful joints. I also have PsA (had it for 46 years) I've had it up to the back teeth with so called specialists, the cost the indifference, the waiting, the change of mind with each visit - sure you feel the same - so again my heart felt sympathy for the situation.

You mentioned the limited weight allowed with the elbow replacement, that totally sucks - I was told a similar thing with a needed shoulder replacement (bone on bone for 40 years and need more joints done as well)- oh and his parting comment was don't fall and put you hand out - - anyway I understand the need to vent - so vent to your hearts content. And don't get me started on our restricted access to a "safer" potential pain solution than life threatening anti-inflammatory drugs or Immunosuppressant Drugs - both of which I now refuse to take.

Again the best of luck and wishes with the procedure.

I have untreatable PsA Mutilans, neither Dmards, biologics, diet or anything else has been successful. Our just legalised new med is not available unless you get the street variety, but, I've just planted a couple of seeds, if it works I'll send off for the medicinal variety.

And you wont have the bloody side affects that many other meds have either
I have extreme lower/mid/upper back pain and let me say the meds I am on knock me out of the park...I make pain my friend most days now!
Medicinal cannabis will in time gain acceptance...particularly when the big pharmaceuticals weigh in on it.
My g.p is most supportive of trialling me on medicinal cannabis...S8 drugs are the only other choice aside from anti depressants which I don't like taking anyway
I feel for you mate and hope you find relief soon...MM

Unfortunately, GPs can't prescribe, only specialists. My GP is also in favour so he just shakes his head at the disinterest shown by specialists. No one in SA has registered for prescribing cannabis yet, and probably won't, they get too many kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies. Practically all medicinal cannabis grown in Australia is exported, what you can get here is prohibitively expensive. If my seeds work I'll send off overseas for some medicinal seed, no interest in getting high.

I'm reasonably lucky with the drugs, no real side effects and no immuno problems. I heel very quickly, never get colds or flu or anything else for that matter - just pain in spades!. Of course coming down off Prednisolone is no easy thing, two years now and I'm down to 1mg per day. Another couple of months should see me clear of them - I hope. Cutting down by 1/4 of a mg sounds ridiculous, but the pain is very real until the body kicks in with it's own cortisol.

Could not agree with you more re the disgusting state of "almost" the complete Medical industry - I'm lumping all of them in this one vent. You must have one amazing immune system, but then again maybe that might play a part in the condition.

They will "GLADLY" prescribe something that they "KNOW" will can cause death, heart attacks, strokes, liver and kidney failure, ruptured stomach, various other life threatening side effects, but OH no! you can't even get the oil to rub on let alone any drops - we don't know the side effects is the lie they pull out of their you know where - what a lie, what a disgusting indictment on everyone blocking this relatively safe pain option from those of us who have lived and suffered with chronic pain for most of our lives.

    Vent over.

I'm amazed at our government's stance with medicinal canabis. Obviously none in government have studied or know much at all about medicinal cannabis. The stringent regulations relating to growing, harvesting, using, prescribing medicinal cannabis are ridiculous.

A simple google brings up a few pertinent points:

Cannabis has two ingredients of interest, THC and CBD. THC is the ingredient that gives you a nice trip, CBD is the ingredient that has proven, albeit anecdotally, to be of value in treating some medical conditions. This anecdotal evidence seems particularly strong in relation to epilepsy.

THC is present in large quantities in recreational cannabis but CBD content is relatively low. You may receive some medical benefits with recreational cannabis but that would be linked more to being spaced out and mellow as the CBD content is much too low to have an effect - medically..

CBD is present in reasonably large amounts in medicinal cannabis but the THC level is so low that tripping is simply not possible, not even if you smoked a truck full of the stuff. Legally, medicinal cannabis cannot contain more than 3% THC.

Of more interest are the opiate pain killers used to treat chronic pain. Being opiate based they are extremely addictive and their effectiveness lessens over time and you require a stronger dose. Eventually it will cease to work and then you have the problem of overdosing and coming down of them. And yet, these addictive and deadly drugs are much preferred by government to a harmless weed you can grow in your back yard - astounding! I've experienced coming down off both Norspan patches, Oxycodone and Tapentadol, all low doses, not pleasant and can take weeks if not months to get off them. I currently take the Maximum dose of Tramadol, a semi synthetic opiate which s not addictive. It takes the edge off, just a smidgen, if taken with Panadol, I also take maximum dose of Celebrex.

Yes I've done a lot of research my self - just makes the lies being fed to the general public even harder to swallow. Yes it may not work for everyone - just like ever other currently prescribed medical drug - but for some people it does work - and I should have the right to at least try it.

I've taken Celebrex and most other NSAID medications for over 40 years, I could tolerate them when I was young, but I had to stop them 6 years ago when I noticed the side effects really starting to kick in due to my age - Note I had to force the various Quacks that I was seeing to actually acknowledge that the drugs were the cause - I've had to fight them all my life and I'm still fighting their ignorance and indifference - only after paying for specialist and tests out of my own pocket do they finally concede. Towards the end, each drug stopped working after a few months and then they made the pain worse - within a week of stopping them I would feel less pain and all of the night pain that felt like really bad sciatica stopped within two days. I now take noting and just live with the pain. Unfortunately as I slowly repaired my shot immune system, the condition has worsened and become more aggressive.

One step forward 10 steps back. If you ever feel inclined I would be interested to hear how you go, in the meantime, thanks for the sharing.

I was on Indocid which is supposed to be bad for your stomach. My doctor said that to save my stomach I should switch to Celebrex.

Two months after switching to Celebrex I was a patient in a local hospital cardiac ward with heart irregularities. The nurse asked me about what meds I was on and after I told her about the Celebrex she said "Off the record, Celebrex is banned in this ward and my advice is to never take it again, Indocid is bad for your stomach but Celebrex is bad for your heart". I switched back to Indocid and my irregularities dissappeared.

I post this purely for your information to do as you see fit.

Yep, that's pretty old news, Celebrex was taken off the market a while back for that reason. Matter of whether you want pain or a exit. I'd rather take the exit than suffer the pain that comes without the Celebrex. Priorities I guess!

    Default Mandatory Euthanasia.

I'm lucky to some extent I suppose, I don't suffer pain as long as I sit stock still and don't move. The moment I lift my arms, twist my wrists, turn my head I get terrible pains. It tends to shift around a bit though, I started back on Celebrex a week or so ago, and the pain is now the worst in my forearms, stop the Celebrex and the pain is more noticeable in my wrists and elbows.

I had steroid shots in my thumbs and wrists last week and that seems to have helped a little. Yesterday I had a shot in my left elbow which also seems to have helped a little. Amazing really, just a little decrease in pain makes a huge difference to your day.

I don't think the body is very good at sharing pain around. Generally it is always so bad in one or two areas that you don't notice other areas.

What a way to end your life. pain and misery until you get so sick of it you finish it. Forget voluntary euthanasia, mandatory euthanasia should be the go!

Some folk are sensitive to opioids...some to nsaids and likewise steroids.
There is NO 'one size fits all'
I presently take 60mg oxycodone slow release daily for pain management and yet some days the pain is too great that I cannot walk
May have to change to fentanyl patches again as my back of late has been screaming!
That's my lot in life and have no option but to accept it and try to enjoy my time on this planet...MM

Cannabis has two ingredients of interest, THC and CBD.] No,THCA is the non- pyscoactive compound present, that can be converted into THC through a process of decarboxylation...for example when it is heated to a certain temperature...MM

Cannabis does have two ingredients of interest, they are THC and CBD. Whether you heat, freeze or dig, hole and bury the cannabis or throwit up in the air the ingredients are still of interest. What you are talking about is how to prepare the cannabis for best results.
Bit of a silly I can google better than you argument that!
Gee, I wonder if I've mis-spelled anything - worry, worry, worry!
