Default Ride Around Australia to Conquer Cancer

I wasn't sure where to put this thread, and to be honest I have probably left it a little late to be honest, but its worth a shot.

I am about to kick off a trip across the bottom end to both raise money for, and assist in the Ride To Conquer Cancer. The Ride to Conquer Cancer is a Bicycle Ride that requires a 100km ride to a campsite on the Saturday, and a 100km ride back home on the Sunday. I am not riding on a push bike, but will be participating as motocrew on my motorcycle. My job is to ensure the riders are safe and to help cheer them on (most are not your regular road racing cyclists). I have already completed the Brisbane Ride this year (and have done so for the last 5 years), and Will be leaving for Sydney on Thursday 8th October. After the weekend at Sydney, I head of to Perth for a Weekend, then back to Melbourne.

This is how I plan to raise money. I am going to set a budget for the trip. Each time I don't have to pay for something, I will take that that money and donate it to the charity for that particular leg of the ride.

My rough budget is as follows: $20/day for food, and $40/80 for accommodation (camping/pub style). Fuel per day I estimate to be about $130 (based on 1000km days). I will have swag and camping gear, so suggestions on free camping will be welcome too. Poor old Sydney is going to lose out on this one, as I am only spending 2 days travelling to Sydney, but their will be a full 5 days for Perth and Melbourne stages.

    Timeline is this.
    Leave Brisbane 8th October.
    Arrive Sydney 9th October.

    Depart Sydney 12th October
    Arrive Perth 16th October

    Depart Perth 19th Ocotber.
    Arrive Melbourne 23rd October.

Sydney Ride starts and finished at Olympic Park.
Perth Ride starts and finshes at Victoria Park.
Melbourne Ride starts and finishes at Albert Park, St Kilda

At this stage, where I spend each night will depend on several things, Fatigue being a big one. Also, offers of accommodation may also influence my decision. I will have a spot tracker running, https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php...f56138b9589779 (hope that works, will fix it when I arrive in Sydney if it fails). If you can help out in any way, shape or form I would really appreciate it. I am well versed in Long Distance Riding, so there is a good chance I will be ahead of schedule most of the time. For me, 1200+km days are easily obtainable!

Contact me via PM or reply here if you think you can help out. I dont want to put a phone number or email up here due to spam reasons.

Last but not least, I dont expect anyone to donate cash, but if you do want to, then you can do it directly using the following links.

    Thanks folks

PS. And if I can help by transporting small things for a small fee, let me know!!!

Cause close to my heart. If you need a place 1/2 way between Melbourne and Adelaide I can help. Also i know heaps of people in Adelaide if you dont get an offer there I am sure I can find something for you with some old school mates

I have a couble of small hand grinders I would love to get down from brisbane to Horsham Vic if you could pick them up for me. Would be more than happy to donate to the cause. As you may know i lost my younger brother to cancer to just a few months ago.

There are three grinders in this link I need to get transported if you think they are not too big and heavy. https://www.woodworkforums.com/f275/free-tools-198733

Damn think you have left Brisbane already.

Sorry Dave, we'll on my way now. Just short of Perth now.

I will be heading back to Melbourne next weekend. Not sure if I will leave Sunday afternoon or Monday yet.

It's been difficult to keep up with forums as when I am not riding I am usually setting up camp, cooking dinner and going to bed!

You can track my progress here if you are interested
https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php...her=no&units=F (can't remember if I posted this link yet) I won't have the tracker on when I am working at rtcc as we spend all day looping the course.

Done that trip a few times. Watch out for the roos. One time it was like some kind of national roo convention. They were lying down and standing all over the road and as far as the night eyes could see. Had to literally slow down and weave between them as they would not get up or move.

If you want to stop on your return trip you are more than welcome.

Will keep an eye on your progress

I got caught short yesterday actually. Planned stop was kimba in SA, but the garmin gps took me another route than what I planned with google maps. Ended up riding an extra 100km the last half hour in the dark between port Augusta and kimba. I tucked in behind a ute and used him as a battering ram!

I have hit a roo on this bike before, ended up with a broken ankle only, but got very lucky.

Other than that one spot, only seen one roo. Heaps of bush chooks out there though.

In Perth now. Stayed with relatives last night, but tonight and tomorrow I am in a hotel at South perth because I have meetings and the ride itself, and its easier. I made Wagga Wagga on Sunday, then from there it took me 3 days to get to perth. So far I have done 5668km in the saddle over the last 7 days!

Not sure if I am allowed to, bought a steak from the butcher and will cook it up in my little trangia camp stove on the balcony! Will be the first fresh meal I have eaten since I have been on the road, everything has been in tins or packets!

Leave Perth on Sunday afternoon, maybe Monday for Melbourne leg. Will be slumming it again in free campgrounds along the way, going to make sure one of them is cliff top on the nullabor looking out over the ocean... I can think of worse things to be doing!! Its been a tough run so far, but a rewarding one. Certainly a lot easier than going through cancer treatments like some of the pushbike riders out there have.
